  INFORMATION CIRCULAR
COMMISSION G1 (Binary and Multiple Star Systems)
INTERNATIONAL ASTRONOMICAL UNION ( IAU )

The Information Circular is the natural vehicle for transmission of news among the members of the IAU Binary and Multiple Star Systems Commission.
It is also circulated to other researchers and to observatories and other astronomical centres.

It dates from 1954. Its editors have been Paul Muller of the Strasbourg Observatory (February 1954 - June 1983; Nos.1-90),
Paul Couteau of the Nice Observatory (October  1983 - June 1993; Nos.91-120). In Number 120 of the Circular of 1993, P. Couteau commented that he was passing the responsibility of the Circular to J. A. Docobo (Ramon Maria Aller Astronomical Observatory, University of Santiago de Compostela, Spain).

Since then, J. A. Docobo and J. F. Ling have been in charge of its publication in English as well as the distribution and have added to the customary contents. For example,  in the first Circular of each year, a biographical compilation of articles published on double and multiple stars during the previous year is presented.

In addition, the Circular was assigned an ISSN number and, beginning in 2021, orbits announced in the Circular include the standard errors of the orbital elements.

It appears on February 15th, June 15th and October 15th each year. It is currently distributed by electronic mail (though distribution by post is possible upon request).
