Trabajo 8: The origin of 16O in the Universe

The 12C(α, γ)16O reaction has a long historic record in nuclear astrophysics. Already in 1957 Burbidge and collaborators noted that “one
of the most pressing current problems in element synthesis is the need for experimental measurements on 12 C(α, γ ).” In spite of numerous
attempts to solve this problem,  more than four decades after the 12 C(α, γ )16 O rate represents “the single greatest experimental uncertainty
             in explosive nucleosynthesis”.

            Guideline

            1. Motivation: stelar scenarios, role of the reaction in stellar nucleosynthesis, previous attemps to investigate this reaction.

             2. Description of the experiment: accelerator, experimental setup.

             3. Discussion of the results.
