CRS is the leading worldwide society in the area of controlled release of drugs
Santiago de Compostela, 12 July 2016.- María José Alonso, Professor of Biopharmaceutics and Pharmaceutical Technology at the University of Santiago de Compostela (USC), has been elected Secretary of the Controlled Release Society, Inc. (CRS, Inc), the worldwide leading organization whose goal is to promote and foster delivery sciences and technologies. The nomination and subsequent election was based on her outstanding carrier in drug delivery sciences and technologies as well as on her long-term commitment with the society.
María José Alonso’s lab has pioneered numerous discoveries in the field of Nanopharmaceutical Technology and nanomedicine. She has coordinated several research consortia financed by the World Health Organization (WHO), the “Bill and Melinda Gates” Foundation and the European Commission. Currently, she is involved in 5 EU Projects and she is coordinating the TRANS-INT EU consortium (http://www.trans-int.eu/).
She is the author of over 230 scientific contributions with more than 11,500 cites (H factor 65) and the inventor of 18 patent families. Because of the quality of her papers she has been among the TOP TEN in Pharmacology (Times Higher Education international ranking). She also serves on the editorial board of the 10 journals.
In 2006-2010, she was the Vice-rector of Research and Innovation of the USC. She has advised the Ministry of Sciences and Innovation in the elaboration of the Law of Sciences, technology and Innovation 2011, and she has been part of the advisory council of the Ministry of Health in Spain. She is also a member of three Academies, the Royal Academy of Pharmacy of Spain, the Academy of Pharmacy of Galicia and the Royal Academy of Sciences in Galicia, Spain.
María José has also held responsibilities in several scientific societies, among them the CRS. She first contributed to the CRS as the Founder of the Spanish-Portuguese Local Chapter (1994), later as a Governor (1995), as a member of the Board of Scientific Advisors (2012) and, since 2013, as a Director-at-Large.
Controlled Release Society
The CRS is a global organization whose main goal is “Advancing delivery science and technology to solve global challenges”. In that sense, CRS, the leading worldwide society in this field, gathers delivery scientists, engineers, clinicians, and technical professionals in a multidisciplinary network oriented to broaden the knowledge and the applications of delivery science and technology.
New Board
Together with Alonso, the other members of the CRS Board have been also elected. The newly elected Board members, will begin their new positions on the 20th of July.
