Innovative pilot for Silicon production with low environmental impact using secondary Aluminium and silicon raw materials

The project aims to demonstrate a patented novel industrial process to produce silicon, enabling a shift from the current carbothermic submerged arc furnace (SAF) process to a much more environmentally and economically sustainable alternative.

The project is coordinated by NTNU (Norway) and integrates 22 partners from 9 countries, organised in 6 interrelated work packages. CITMAga is a partner in this project and several members of the research group are involved. The main objective of the CITMAga group is the modelling and numerical simulation of different types of furnaces to optimise their design and operation.
