Current position

Tenured Professor of Psychobiology at the Department of Clinical Psychology and Psychobiology of the University of Santiago de Compostela. Director of research on Aging within the Research Group on Cognitive and Affective Neursocience.

Interests

My research was initially oriented to the study of psychophysiological correlates of age-related changes in cognitive processes (1989-1998), and thereafter was more interested on visual attention processes. In the last years I coordinate two research lines, one on neurocognitive correlates of the relationships between attention and response processes in healthy young and older participants, and the other one on the relationship between nutrition and neurocognitive function in elderly people living at public residences of the galician community (Xunta de Galicia). For that purpose, we record electroencephalographic (EEG) activity during the execution of tasks that activate attention and response mechanisms under inhibition of return and stimulus-response compatibility situations. We study these processes by means of behavioural, ERP and time-frequency analyses. We also perform complementary magnetoencephalographic (MEG) recordings. For both EEG and MEG data, we have the transversal objective of obtaining the neural sources of the studied processes, and their age-related changes. All neurophysiological measures are complemented with a neurpsychological evaluation.

Brief academic profile

I have been developing my teaching activity mainly in Psychology Faculty of USC (Bachelor degree, Degree, Master). Regarding academic management, I have been Secretary of the Department of Psychology and Psychobiology, Coordinator of Psychobiology Area, and Member of several Faculty Committees. Lastly, I have been member of the Psychology Committee (Psychobiology area) of the National Agency for Evaluation and Prospective (ANEP) from 2009 to 2012.
