Interests

Most of my research has been devoloped around two topics: risk factors and neuropsychological consequences of alcohol consumption, and the protective effect of cognitive reserve on the neuropsychological consequences of brain damage. Now, the COVID-19 pandemic has led me to initiate, together with researchers from Preventive Medicine and Neurology, a new line on the neuropsychological effects associated with SARS-CoV-2 infection. In relation to the alcohol line, I am currently investigating the role of the adolescent binge drinking during in the development of alcohol use disorders in adulthood and the associated neuropsychological consequences. I am particularly interested in the declarative memory and the emotional processing, as well as the attentional bias to alcohol-related stimuli. In relation to COVID-19, I participate in a longitudinal study on the potential neuropsychological sequelae in people who needed hospitalization.

Psychology degree, USC, 1992; Master’s degree in Substance abuse, USC, 1994; Ph.D., USC, 1997.

After a brief period as a postdoctoral fellow, I began my academic career as assistant professor in 1998, obtaining the post of Lecturer in neuropsychology in 2008. In addition to the activity carried out at USC, I have done research stays at the University of Barcelona, the University of Murcia, the University of La Laguna and the Autonomous University of Madrid. My teaching activity has focused on Neuropsychology (levels of degree, master and doctoral).
