Influencia de la estructura normativa familiar sobre el estilo cognitivo dependencia-independencia de campo: un estudio prospectivo.

Differentiation theory may be used to predict that family environments allowing children to organize and structure their own experiences foster a field-independent cognitive style. To test this hypothesis, the possible association between field dependence/independence cognitive style (FDI) and types of family environmental structures (FES) proposed by Lautrey was studied in 12 to 14 years old children from 91 families with different normative structures. The Embedded Figures Test (EFT) was also used. The results reveal significant differences in subjects� cognitive style according to FES -children from flexible and weak families are more field independent than those from rigid families. They also partially confirm predictions based on differentiation theory.
