José Luis Mascareñas, researcher at the Center for Research in Biological Chemistry and Molecular Materials (CiQUS) and a professor at the University of Santiago de Compostela, has been appointed as a full member of the Royal Academy of Exact, Physical, and Natural Sciences (RAC). His addition to the Physics and Chemistry section reinforces the recognition of his outstanding career in the field of biological chemistry and his contributions to developing new strategies for applying catalysis in biological environments, as well as his research in designing agents with therapeutic potential in oncology.

Mascareñas expressed his gratitude for this appointment, which he considers "a privilege and an honor," while also highlighting the responsibility that comes with being part of an institution that has included prominent figures in Spanish science. His appointment to the RAC marks him as the first full member from the University of Santiago de Compostela in this institution.

Founded in 1847, the Royal Academy of Exact, Physical, and Natural Sciences aims to promote study and research in the scientific field, advancing knowledge and its application for the benefit of society. Throughout its history, it has included academics of great relevance in various disciplines, establishing itself as a reference institution in the Spanish scientific landscape.

Prof. Mascareñas' career and his continuous dedication to science have been instrumental in positioning his research group and the CiQUS at the forefront of research in biological and molecular chemistry. His appointment to the RAC not only marks a milestone in his career but also highlights the projection and impact of the science developed at the center.
