Kick-off of the new International Master promoted by CiQUS

16/09/2019

The center and the Faculty of Chemistry of the USC launch a new and ambitious academic initiative linked to the strategic research areas developed at CiQUS.

A total of 10 students from different universities will be involved in the new Master in Chemistry at the Interface with Biology, which has began today at CiQUS as a novelty of the academic offer available in 2019-2020 at the University of Santiago de Compostela (USC). Held jointly by the Faculty of Chemistry and the Center for Research in Biological Chemistry and Molecular Materials (CiQUS), this master emerges as the first degree associated with a Singular Research Center of the Galician University System.

The first official master's degree in Spain for graduate students who wish to deepen knowledge in science at the boundaries between chemistry, biology and nanomaterials will provide studentes with a multi- and interdisciplinary training in the field of molecular sciences, as well as in their interface with biomedicine and materials science. The master has been conceived with an important experimental character, thus developing the basic training to start a research career or to join chemical and technological companies.

One of the main features of the master is related to the prestige and quality of the teaching staff, which includes, among others, 4 renowned researchers with a total of 6 ERC - European Research Council projects. Students will complete their training by performing the Master's Final Project in one of the 18 CiQUS research groups. These research projects will be done within one of the strategic lines of the center: Biological and Medical Chemistry, Functional Materials with Technological Application or Synthetic Technologies for Sustainable Development.

The new master's degree will be taught entirely in English, and will last for one year and a half, in line with the European reference framework. The contents will be displayed through 5 modules organized over a year and a half (3 semesters), after which the students will have completed a total of 90 ECTS credits. The master's degree will offer the possibility to carry out an internship in different international institutions or private companies.
