Adrián Sánchez Fernández
Adrián received his MEng in Chemical Engineering from the University of Santiago de Compostela (USC) in 2013. In 2018 he completed his PhD at the University of Bath (United Kingdom) under the supervision of Prof. Karen Edler, investigating the assembly of amphiphiles in deep eutectic solvents (DESs).
Later, he joined the Pharmaceutica Formulation group at Lund University (Sweden) led by Prof. Marie Wahlgren. Until 2021 he investigated the structure and behavior of proteins in the presence of amphiphiles in aqueous environments. In 2022 he moved to the group of Prof. Javier Montenegro at the Center for Research in Biological Chemistry and Molecular Materials (CIQUS, USC) after receiving the María Zambrano fellowship (2021 call) and the Marie Curie Postdoctoral Fellowship (2021 call). During this stage, he began to study the adaptation of nucleic acids in DESs with the goal of developing these solvents as functional environments for the preservation of labile biomolecules.
Currently, he is developing several projects oriented toward biomolecular function beyond aqueous solvents as a Ramon y Cajal Fellow (2022 call, linked to the Department of Chemical Engineering).
