Subject areas
In the Department there are two areas of knowledge:
-
Area of Applied Mathematics
It aims to convey knowledge of mathematics and contribute to the development of their applications for modelling, mathematical analysis and numerical simulation of processes and devices in Engineering and in basic and applied sciences.
-
Area
of Astronomy and Astrophysics
It works on Astronomy, Celestial Mechanics and Geodesy.
Up
Infrastructures
In addition to all the IT resources it is worth mentioning our multimedia facilities as well as the commercial software for numerical simulation we have which will benefit both students and researchers. The area has software licenses in MATLAB, COMSOL Multiphysics, FLUX2D, PATRAN, NASTRAN, MARC, Actran, FLUENT, MIKE, ECOLAB and Ensight.
The area also has a cluster of 19 computer equipment:
1. One Dell PowerEdge R720XD - front cluster node.
2. Six PowerEdge C6220 II. Calculation equipment.
3. Seven DELL PowerEdge 1950. Calculation equipment.
4. Two DELL PowerEdge R610 with dual Intel X5570 processor, 48GB of RAM and an 80GB hard drive. Calculation equipment.
6. Two DELL PowerEdge R815. Calculation equipment.
7. An 8TB backup disc.
Communication between all nodes is carried out using a PowerConnect 8132F switch, a 3Com switch with 24 Gigabit ports and a 3Com switch with 16 ports. The operating system running on the cluster is a Rocks 6 one.
-
Astronomy and Astrophysics
In recent years, the area has been provided with more staff, better facilities, new instrumentation which has help updating its research, teaching and other scientific activities.
