Astronomical Observatory
  • Avda. das Ciencias. Campus Vida, 15782
    Santiago de Compostela
  • oasec [at] usc.es

Founded in 1943 by Professor Ramón María Aller Ulloa, as a continuation of the private observatory he had in Lalín. Its main roles are research (in different lines, but especially in binary and multiple stars), teaching (it hosts the work placements of students studying astronomy subjects), astronomical outreach (organising and developing numerous programmes), and meteorology (it has the oldest living series of data from Santiago de Compostela, and since 1982 it has been a partner centre of the AEMET). It has modern, high quality astronomical instrumentation and its library is one of the most complete in the university field.
