I Conference of the Philosophy of Science Network

Santiago de Compostela, January 22 and 23, 2024

 The philosophy of Science network, FICIRED, will hold its first conference in Santiago de Compostela on 22 and 23 January 2024.

Motivation

The network aims to increase the critical mass, promote methodological and disciplinary exchanges on the most innovative fields of philosophy of science, facilitate predoctoral and postdoctoral training and promote the international projection of the work of the network as a Spanish collective. Many of the groups that make up the network are also members of the Iberian Network of Philosophy of Science; the conferences are organized in collaboration with the rest of the members of the Iberian network.

The philosophy of science, a field that links philosophy (and the humanities) with the sciences, is particularly relevant at a time like the present when expert knowledge is an essential element in the management of political decisions. Philosophy of science aims to reflect on scientific and political practices, to which cultural meaning is attributed, and on science itself, its assumptions, foundations, methods and implications. It contributes to contemporary thought precisely by analyzing scientific and political practices to which cultural meaning is attributed, and science itself as it deals with its assumptions, foundations, methods, and implications. The network is also presented as a space for analysis of shared epistemologies of science and its elaboration, the analysis of its components and agents, as well as its processes of elaboration and circulation. In this philosophical space, gender and women's participation are taken as cross-cutting issues, essential for an inclusive and profound understanding of the very contents of the scientific knowledge under study.

The objectives of this first conference are to bring together the groups that make up the network, to promote international recognition of research activity in Spain in the scientific field of the network, and to reinforce pre-doctoral and post-doctoral training within the framework of the network.

In line with other congresses organized by the Iberian Network of Philosophy of Science, papers are invited in the following fields:

- Epistemology and Methodology;

- General Philosophy of Science;

- Philosophy of Logic and Mathematics;

-Integrated History and Philosophy of Science;

- Philosophy of scientific practices;

- Philosophy of Artificial Intelligence and Computation;

- Philosophy of Cognitive Sciences;

- Philosophy of Artificial Intelligence and Computation;

However, scholars working on any topic of interest in philosophy of science are invited to take part in the conference.
