José Luis Mascareñas, Full Professor of Organic Chemistry, has been appointed as Scientific Director of CIQUS (Center for Research in Biological Chemistry and Molecular Materials).
Professor Mascareñas got his Ph.D. in 1988, with Professors Antonio Mouriño and Luis Castedo at the University of Santiago de Compostela (USC). He was a postdoctoral fellow at Stanford University under the supervision of Professor Paul Wender, then became Permanent Professor at the USC in 1993, and Full Professor in 2004. He has been a visiting scientist at the Universities of Harvard, Cambridge and MIT. He currently leads a research group attached to CIQUS.
Throughout his teaching and research career he has supervised 19 doctoral theses , and five of his doctoral students have achieved a Ramón y Cajal contract. In 2013 was awarded by the European Research Council with one of the prestigious ERC Advanced Grants.
Associate Professor Dolores Pérez Meirás, who since 2010 held the position of Director of CIQUS Commissioner, will hold the position of Deputy Director of the center.
