His work, entitled 'Multicomponent reactions: chemical tools on development of antimitotic drugs', has been awarded as the best communication-poster.

CiQUS predoctoral researcher Carlos Carbajales has been awarded with the Best Communication-Poster at the III Edition of the Biomedical Cancer Research Meeting for his work 'Multicomponent reactions: chemical tools on development of antimitotic drugs', related to the analysis of multicomponent reactions in the synthesis of antimitotic drugs.

This communication-poster, which is part of his PhD under the supervision of CiQUS researchers Alberto Coelho and Eddy Sotelo, demonstrates how the application of multicomponent reactions are an excellent chemical tools to access new drugs.

In this work, the chemical library was prepared by a process which saves up to 5 synthetic steps with respect to other procedures described for this class of compounds, from the family of benzimidazoles. These compounds were tested in different cell lines and showed a potent antitumor activity based on mitotic arrest.
