CIQUS PhD student awarded at II Meeting of Young Researchers

04/02/2014

During the past II Meeting of Young Researchers at USC, representing CIQUS, PhD student Daniel González Fernández received the award for "Best Oral Communication at the Environment, Bioeconomy and Energy Session", with his presentation "BLOCK-COPOLYMER WITH RIGID DENDRONS".

Daniel is developing his PhD thesis project at CIQUS, entitled "Development of Block Copolymers of Rigid Dendrimers Through Click Chemistry". This project addresses the design, synthesis, characterization and applications of hybrid block-copolymers linear-dendritic, co-directed by Professor Mercedes Torneiro (Dept. of Organic Chemistry) and Massimo Lazzari (CIQUS researcher).

Dendrimers are synthetic tree-like macromolecules composed of repetitive layers of branching units that are prepared in a controlled iterative fashion through generations with precise molecular weight and discrete properties. Their globular architecture and size in the nanometer scale render dendrimers attractive for many applications in the fields of catalysis, materials and nanomedicine.
