Concepción González Bello, group leader at CiQUS, will take part as invited speaker in the "6th Conference on Nucleic Acid-Protein Chemical and Structural Biology for Novel Drug Discovery” that will be held in Chengdu (China) from May 26-28, 2016, sharing stage with 2009 Nobel Laurate in Chemistry, Prof. Ada Yonath.

During her lecture entitled “Structure-Based Design of Inhibitors of the Shikimic Acid Pathway – Opportunities for Antibiotic Drug Discovery”, Prof. González Bello will present the main results of the antibiotic drug discovery investigations carried out by her research group at CiQUS. The main strategy of her group is focused on developing updated therapies targeting infectious diseases, in particular, drugs with new mechanisms of action to combat the growth of antibiotic-resistant bacteria.

The “6th Conference on Nucleic Acid-Protein Chemical and Structural Biology for Novel Drug Discovery” which is organized by the College of Chemistry and the State Key Laboratory of Biotherapy and Cancer Center of the Sichuan University in Chengdu, will have the privilege to have Prof. Ada Yonath, the 2009 Nobel Laurate in Chemistry, as keynote speaker. In October 2010, Prof. Yonath visited the USC as an invited professor of the ConCiencia Program, and she was also the plenary speaker of the “7th Flash Conference ERA-CHEMISTRY on Bioinspired Chemistry” chaired by Prof. González Bello.
