The CiQUS PhD student Luiz F. Pinto has being awarded by the Company Janssen for the best oral communication presented at the VII Biennial NMR Meeting organized by the Specialized NMR Group of the Spanish Chemical Society (GERMN), which was held from 22nd to 24th September 2014 in Alcalá de Henares, Madrid. His communication was entitled “Evaluation of dendrimer dynamics and stepwise filtering of their internal layers by T2-edited NMR”.
His work belongs to the research group led by Professor Eduardo Fernández Megía, Eduardo Fernández Megía. Their research is focused on the preparation of well-defined polymeric nanostructures, e.g. dendrimers, for biomedical applications. The characterization of these systems by NMR relaxation gives information on their structure and dynamics. Based on his results, Luiz F. Pinto has published two papers in the prestigious Journal of the American Chemical Society (JACS), entitled “The Dynamics of Dendrimers by NMR Relaxation: Interpretation Pitfalls” and “Stepwise Filtering of the Internal Layers of Dendrimers by Transverse-Relaxation-Edited NMR”.
In 2014, the VII Biennial NMR Meeting and the IV Iberian NMR Meeting have been celebrated along with the VI Iberoamerican NMR Meeting in Alcalá de Henares, Madrid (Spain), in collaboration with the Portuguese Nuclear Magnetic Resonance Network (PTNMR) and the Associaçao de Usuários de Ressonância Magnética Nuclear (AUREMN). This special arrangement offered the Iberoamerican NMR spectroscopists a large audience and a great opportunity to present their results.
