New prize for a young researcher of the CIQUS

15/09/2014

Young researchers of CIQUS had a very successful participation at the XIII Meeting of the Specialized Group of Polymers (Spanish Royal Societies of Chemistry and Physics), which was held in Girona, last 7th to 10th of September. PhD student Seila Leiras won the prize to the Best Oral Presentation in its panel, with her communication entitled "Stereocomplex formation in helical polymers by a precise tuning on their secondary structure".

Felix Freire (Ramón y Cajal Researcher) together with PhD students Seila Leiras Fernández, Sandra Arias López and Rafael Rodríguez Riego presented 5 oral communications (over a total of 70 in all the panels). All those young researchers belong to the CIQUS Research Group of Helical Polymers, led by Prof. R. Riguera and Prof. E. Quiñoá. Although they started this new research line about "STIMULI-RESPONSIVE HELICAL POLYMERS" only a few years ago, since 2010 they have achieved up to 7 publications in top scientific journals, such as Angewandte Chemie Int. Ed., the Journal of The American Chemical Society and Chemical Science (edited by the Royal Society of Chemistry, UK).

The Oral Communications were the following:

 - Total control of the helical sense in poly(phenylacetylene)s by metal ions, by Félix Freire.

 - Chiral nanostructures based in helical polymer metal-complexes, by Sandra Arias.

 - Tuning the secondary structure and dynamical behaviour of poly(phenylacetylenes), by Rafael Rodríguez.

 - Nanostructuration of helical polymers, by Félix Freire.

 - Stereocomplex formation in helical polymers by a precise tuning on their secondary structure, by Seila Leiras.
