Academic training
Degree on Agricultural Engineering from the Technical University of Madrid (1971).
PhD from the Technical University of Madrid (1996).
Professional career
He is Associated Professor in the Department of Applied Economics at the University of Santiago de Compostela (USC). Before, he was researcher in the field of animal production at the National Institute for Agricultural and Food Research and Technology (INIA). He worked, firstly, on beef and sheepmeat production systems and, later, on dairy sector economics and agri-food industry. He was involved in more than 20 research projects and he published several articles in national and international journals, as well as several books and book charpetrs in the fields of his specialization.
As public administrator, it stands out his activiti as Territorial Director of the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food (1985-1987) and, later, as Minister of Agriculture, Farming and Mounts of the Autonomous Community of Galicia (1987-1990). He was deputy of the Socialist Group at the Galician Parliament between 1989 and 2005.
He is member of the research group Agri-food and Environmental Economics, Rural Development and Social Economy (ECOAGRASOC) since its creation in 2004.
