Summary
This Master's Thesis proposes an original intervention program designed for older adults with Alzheimer's dementia at the AFALU Day Center, the Association of Families and Alzheimer's Patients of Lugo. The intervention combines cognitive stimulation with art therapy techniques and dual tasks to promote emotional expression and improve participants' well-being. The program design is based on the benefits of multimodal cognitive stimulation and the therapeutic value of art, especially in situations of dementia. It consists of 12 group sessions spread over six weeks in which different modalities are alternated. The sessions have a similar structure: activity-oriented with guided relaxation or sensory exploration, the main activity, and conclude with laughter therapy. The program evaluation proposes a pre-post test design with validated instruments along with ongoing qualitative observation to detect possible adjustment needs. Regarding expected outcomes, slight improvements are anticipated in cognitive functions such as attention, autobiographical memory, as well as mood and general well-being. Among the program's strengths are its flexibility, replicability, and integrative nature. Limitations include the difficulty in generalizing the results and the simplicity of some of the activities. Future research proposals could explore other art therapy modalities not included in this program, such as creative writing or photography. Furthermore, it would be interesting to incorporate more diverse materials that promote greater personalization of the activities.

Summary
Behavioral and Psychological Symptoms of Dementia (BPSD) represent one of the main challenges in the care of institutionalized older adults, both due to their high prevalence and their significant impact on residents’ quality of life and the professional burnout of frontline care staff. This issue is exacerbated by the lack of specific training in non-pharmacological approaches to these symptoms, as well as the emotional strain, which may lead to burnout. This Master's Thesis presents a psychoeducational intervention program aimed at direct care staff at the Brión II residential facility, with the goal of improving the management of BPSD, reducing professional burnout, and promoting a more empathetic and person-centered approach to care. The program consists of twelve one-hour sessions, organized into two blocks with an intermission. It is designed from a practical and participatory perspective, combining brief theoretical presentations with real case analysis, group dynamics, role-playing activities, and emotional self-regulation techniques. Program evaluation is conducted using a pre-post design with validated instruments (MBI and CVS-R). The intervention is expected to enhance understanding of BPSD and benefit both professionals and residents. Anticipated outcomes include a reduction in caregiver burnout and the promotion of more humanized care in daily practice. Future studies should consider implementing this proposal in diverse care settings and advocate for its integration into training plans within the residential care sector

Summary
The aging population has increased the need for proposals that promote emotional well-being in old age. In a context where activities in adults day centers often prioritize the physical or cognitive, painting emerges as a therapeutic resource with the potential to improve self-esteem, reduce anxiety, and strengthen personal identity. Within this framework, the main objective of this study is to design a painting-based intervention program to promote emotional well-being in older adults attending a adult day center. This art therapy program consists of ten sessions that combine individual and group dynamics, fostering cooperation, emotional expression, and creativity. To evaluate its impact, validated instruments will be used: the Ryff Psychological Well-Being Scale, the Rosenberg Self-Esteem Scale, and the Geriatric Anxiety Inventory. Based on the evidence reviewed, a significant improvement in all three dimensions is expected, along with an increase in motivation, perceived self-efficacy, and a sense of group belonging. In conclusion, everything indicates that pictorial art therapy is not only effective, but also valued and meaningful for older adults, establishing itself as an affordable, motivating, and emotionally restorative therapeutic alternative.

Summary
Suicide is a serious public health problem whose prevalence has increased significantly in recent years, especially among people over 65 years of age. This multicausal phenomenon involves biological, psychological, and social factors, and presents specific challenges for its detection and intervention. Despite the existence of validated instruments to assess variables such as depression or functionality, there is no brief, specific scale adapted to the characteristics of old age that effectively identifies suicidal risk situations. Therefore, this study aims to lay the groundwork for the development of a screening tool for this population. The study was structured in two phases. First, a systematic review of recent scientific literature was conducted to identify risk and protective factors associated with suicide in older adults. Second, elements of the Delphi method was applied through a specially designed form, with the participation of a panel of 15 psychogeriatric experts. These professionals assessed the relevance of the identified factors using a Likert scale from 1 to 10. The results allowed them to select the elements considered most significant, which will serve as the basis for the future development of a specific screening scale. This work responded to an urgent professional and social need and sought to contribute to improving well-being and preventing suffering in a particularly vulnerable and often invisible population.

Summary
This study aims to develop a mindfulness-based intervention proposal intended to enhance emotional intelligence among older adults. The proposal targets students at Ategal, a continuing education center for individuals aged 55 and above and is founded on the integration of mindfulness practices and emotional psychoeducation. The motivation for this study arises from the increase in the elderly population and the challenges they may encounter in recognizing, comprehending and regulating their emotions, which can adversely affect their psychological well-being and, consequently, their capacity to maintain an active and healthy lifestyle as they age. The proposal is organised into seven weekly sessions, four of which are structured according to the Mindfulness-Based Emotional Intelligence Training (MBEIT) model. These sessions incorporate guided breathing and listening meditations, group dynamics and individual activities designed to foster emotional awareness, acceptance of distressing thoughts and emotions, and effective action aligned with personal values. Different scales will be used as evaluation methods, including the Brief Emotional Intelligence Inventory for Seniors (EQ-i-M20), the Trait Meta-Mood Scale (TMMS-24), the Mindful Attention Awareness Scale (MAAS), the Beck Anxiety Inventory (BAI), and the Yesavage Geriatric Depression Scale (GDS). The anticipated outcomes are significant improvements in emotional regulation, emotional awareness and mindfulness skills as a result of mindfulness practice. This program represents an innovative approach aimed at enhancing the quality of life of older adults through non-pharmacological interventions focused on promoting emotional well-being.

Summary
The increase in life expectancy has led to a rise in dementia cases, creating a need for effective non-pharmacological interventions that support the maintenance of functional abilities and the well-being of older adults. This project presents an intervention proposal that designs a group-based program for individuals with mild to moderate dementia, focused on structured cognitive stimulation and adapted through a cultural approach. The main objective of this work is to promote the preservation of cognitive functioning -targeting specific functions such as episodic memory, attention, and language- and to foster emotional well-being and quality of life. The program is structured into themed sessions that incorporate multisensory activities such as learning through visually appealing materials, memory or information recall, coloring illustrations, and solving visual puzzles. All activities are adapted to the sociocultural context of the group and follow a culturally themed thread. The methodology includes a pre- and post-intervention assessment using the following tools: the Mini-Mental State Examination (MMSE) for global cognitive status, the Spanish-Complutense Verbal Learning Test (TAVEC) for verbal episodic memory, and the SPANE and WHOQOL-BREF scales to assess emotional well-being and quality of life. A satisfaction questionnaire will also be administered at the end and a continuous observation record will be kept during the sessions. It is expected that the combination of cognitive stimulation, a cultural focus, multisensory activities, and a group format will provide cognitive and psychosocial benefits for older adults with mild to moderate cognitive impairment.

Summary
Suicide among older adults is a public health problem with significant social and health implications, especially in the context of institutionalization, where risk factors such as isolation, frailty, and medical comorbidity converge. This study proposes an observational, cross sectional, and descriptive epidemiological study aimed at identifying the sociodemographic, functional, psychological, and social determinants related to the risk of suicidal behavior in residents of five Servisenior centers in Galicia. The objective of this proposal is to characterize the risk profile based on advanced age, reduced functionality, poorer self perceived health, depressive symptoms, and low social support, following previous findings in the geriatric population. Ultimately, the results will contribute to the design of specific, evidence based interventions focused on the group of older adults living in institutions.

Summary
Population aging is one of the demographic phenomena of the 21st century, health promotion and dependency prevention can be achieved through psychoeducational programs that promote active aging and strengthen personal and social competencies, contributing to the well-being and autonomy of older people for longer. With the end of working life, the transition to retirement represents a critical moment in the life course, which can be experienced as a loss of role or as an opportunity to redefine the meaning of life and personal projects. There is ample evidence that Retirement Preparation Programs are of vital importance for this stage, since in their different modalities they provide conceptual and personal development tools. The purpose of the Psychoeducational Program for a Psychoeducational Life Project intervention proposal is to provide psychoeducational tools that favor generativity, understood as the capacity to contribute to future generations and to build a legacy, thus promoting an active, creative and socially committed vision of this stage. This proposal is designed to be developed in ATEGAL, which are already people who participate in different training proposals, however this program is aimed at people who are going through the retirement stage and who are interested in participating in this proposal. The program consists of 8 sessions, with ad hoc qualitative evaluations and scales of attitudes towards retirement, well-being and generativity and generative behaviors, and the drafting of a generative project of their own. It is expected that the participants will be able to develop their project, bringing meaning and well-being to their lives.
