The students should
- be able to analyse scientific texts regarding the topics, to formulate technical questions and suggest solutions to these problems on a conceptual level
- be able to work out solutions and make informed decisions together with IT professionals in digital lexicography projects
- improve communicating skills by presenting the results of technical analyses to the other participants in an intelligible way
- Data modeling for lexicographical data: ERM; trees, tables, graphs
- Storing lexicographical data: database models and technologies
- XML technologies: standards and tools
- How online dictionaries work: basics of web technology; presentation in the browser
- Managing the e-lexicographical process: tools and applications

Block seminar (date and duration to be announced)
1. Opportunity:
The teacher chooses one of the following:
a) 90-minute final exam in class;
b) presentation in class plus a brief paper (10 pages max.);
c) longer take-home paper (15-20 pages)
100% of the mark obtained in the final exam / assignment
2. Opportunity: The assessment on the second opportunity will be based on the same criteria.
Academic misconduct (cheating, plagiarism in exercises or tests) will be penalized according to the University regulations on student assessment (“Normativa de avaliación do rendemento académico dos estudantes e de revisión de cualificacións”).

Contingency plan:
In the event that a semi-presential academic (teaching) period is required or that all academic activities are suspended due to the COVID-19 crisis, academic activities will continue to be either semi-presential, combining both possibilities (face-to-face and online) depending on the health situation, or online. We will use the EMLex teaching platform (Moodle), (ii) different videoconferencing systems, and (iii) email. These tools will also be used as a means of communication and tutoring between the teaching staff and the students. Contents, planning, evaluation and bibliography will not be modified.
