The main objective of the Master's Thesis is the performance of a work in the field of Chemical and Bioprocess Engineering, of professional or researcher profile , which synthesizes and integrates the different skills acquired in the various subjects comprising the Master degree, also contributing to complement their training.
The Master's Thesis will consist of an original work done individually, consisting of a comprehensive project of Chemical Engineering of professional nature in which the skills acquired in the formation are synthesized (as stated in BOE August 4th, 2009).
The Master Thesis may consist of a research or design project or a scientific or technical development study, always related to the different subjects of the Master.
The work may be developed through a stage in a company, public organism, university, research center or technology center which has signed a cooperation agreement with the USC in the context of the Master, or in a Research Group of the USC. An external tutor and an academic tutor are named when the Master Thesis is done outside the USC.
Appropriate to the topic and type of work to be developed.
Basic and general competences: CB7, CB8, CB9, CB10, CG1, CG4, CG7, CG8, CG10.
Specific competences: CE1, CE2, CE3, CE4, CE5, CE6, CE7, CE10, CE11, CE12
Cross competencias: CT1, CT2, CT3, CT4
It is not considered reasonable to establish a general methodology valid for all types of Master Thesis. Then, it will be defined specifically for each one depending on its characteristics but guaranteeing the acquisition of all the competences of the subject: CB7, CB8, CB9, CB10, CG1, CG4, CG7, CG8, CG10,CE1, CE2, CE3, CE4, CE5, CE6, CE7, CE10, CE11, CE12, CT1, CT2, CT3, CT4.
The tutor/s will schedule work sessions with students, to establish the schedule of tasks to be performed and to guide the work. He/she will be responsible for exposing each student work characteristics, to orient its development and to ensure compliance with the objectives set.
According to the Regulation of registration, preparation and defense of the end of Grade and End of Master work at the University of Santiago de Compostela, approved by the Governing Council of 10 March 2016, the evaluation of TFM will be made through its exhibition and public defense in front of an evaluation committee.
The tutor/s must submit a mandatory and confidential assesment report before the presentation and defense of the work by the student.
Student will prepare a report of his/her work, which will be presented in a public session to an evaluation committee formed by Master professors. In this session, the student will defend the TFM against the evaluation committee and answer those questions that were asked.
Each student will be assessed individually, for which the following criteria are taken into account:
* Work done by the student, including the quality of the report submitted (50%) (EC3, EC5, EC6, EC7, CE10, CB8, CB9, CG1, CG7, CG8, CG10)
* Mandatory tutor/s report/s (25%) (CT1 (if applicable), CT2, CT3, CT4, EC1, EC2, EC4, CE11, CE12, CB7, CB8, CB10, CG4)
* Presentation and defense of the TFM (25%) (CB9, CT4)
The evaluation of each of the criteria will be done by means of a rubric prepared for this purpose.
The subject has a workload of 18 ECTS, corresponding 1 ECTS to 25 h of total work, distributed in the following way:
Activity-Presencial hours-Student work hours-ECTS
Seminars 3,5 48,5 2,08
Individual tutorials 12 360 14,88
Exam and revision 1 25 1,04
Total 16,5 433,5 18,0
Students must have passed all other subjects of the Master degree before defending the Master's Thesis.
