The Faíscas Culturales programme Manuela Rey is in da USC is included in the Spring Cultural programme, and will take place between February and May 2024, in the faculties of Education Sciences, Geography and History, Philology and Medicine.
Within these faculties there will be artistic performances, conferences, meetings and a special performance for the university community of the show 'Manuela Rey is in da house' on 13 March 2024 in the Teatro Principal of Santiago de Compostela.
The choice of these centres responds to the interest of approaching the multiple profiles of the life and work of this important and unknown actress from different disciplines; she was born in 1842 in the place of A Valiña, in the parish of San Vicente de Tigrás in the municipality of Mondoñedo.
Manuela Rey, a Galician born in a parish of Mondoñedo, was the great mid-19th century Lisbon star. She was born in 1842 and died at the age of 23 as the leading actress of the Dona Maria II Theatre in the Portuguese capital, leaving behind a life and professional career that is still largely unknown.
The Centro Dramático Galego in co-production with the Teatro del Noroeste_CDV (Viana do Castelo), the Teatro Nacional São João de Porto and the Teatro Nacional D. María II de Lisboa, join forces to highlight and vindicate the figure of the so-called 'lily woman' With dramaturgy and directed by Fran Núñez, director of the CDG, a Galician-Portuguese artistic team brings the show Manuela Rey is in da house to the stage, recently premièred in Portugal and which will be performed in Galicia on 14 March at the Teatro Principal in Santiago de Compostela.
