The Final Degree Project consists of the development of a personal project where the knowledge and skills acquired during the Degree studies are applied and integrated, as well as the student’s creativity and originality.
The project must be original and independent, with its own identity, although it may form part of a broader or more general development.
The contents of the Final Degree Projects must fall into one of the following categories:
a) Analysis, design, implementation, validation, and testing of a model that contributes to any AI paradigm.
b) Analysis, design, implementation, validation, and testing of a module, application, service, or complete intelligent system.
The specific bibliography for each project will be included in the different project proposals approved by the Final Degree Project Committee.
The specific competencies developed during the Final Degree Project depend on the particular subject of each project. The general competencies developed during the TFG include: the ability to conceive and plan the development of models (CG1), problem-solving and decision-making with creativity and autonomy (CG2), design and creation of high-quality Artificial Intelligence solutions (CG3), the ability to select appropriate solutions for specific problems (CG4), and both oral and written communication (CB4).
The Final Degree Project (TFG) consists of an individual project, report, or original study carried out by each student under the supervision of one or more academic tutors, integrating and developing the training contents, capacities, competencies, and skills acquired during the Degree studies. Every TFG requires a tutor who assists the student. The student must contact the project proposer in order to jointly prepare the agreement document. This agreement must be submitted during the academic year in which the proposal is assigned and delivered to the ETSE Secretariat using the established procedures. The document must be submitted in PDF format, with a digital or scanned signature, by the last working day of February for defense in July or September, or by the last working day of October for defense in February. The TFG agreement document will include:
a) Identity data (including signature of acceptance).
b) Identity data of the TFG Tutor (including signature of acceptance).
c) Identity data of the TFG Co-Tutor, if applicable (including signature of acceptance).
d) TFG title.
e) Overall objective and sub-objectives of the TFG.
The list of received agreements will be published by the Secretariat after the deadline dates. The School Board will approve and publish the submission periods for the TFG reports along with the official exam calls for each academic year.
The report will show the work carried out by the student. It shall have a maximum length of 50 pages (excluding the index, bibliography, and manuals), and shall include the documentation specified in the TFG regulations.
The TFG evaluation allows for two modalities: evaluation by the tutor and evaluation by a panel. In the TFG defense request, the student may choose between public defense before the tutor or public defense before a panel. The TFG presentation will last approximately 20 minutes per student and will be a public event.
1. Tutor modality:
- The public defense will be held during the corresponding call published by the School, indicating date, time, and place.
- The maximum grade that can be obtained in this modality is 8.0 out of 10.
2. Panel modality:
- The panels in charge of evaluating the TFGs will consist of three regular members (chair, secretary, and member) and one alternate member, all of whom must be teaching staff of the Degree.
- The TFG tutor cannot be a member of the evaluating panel.
The evaluation will range from 0 to 10 points and will be based on the following criteria:
a) Quality of the Work (CT): 65%.
b) Documentation (D): 20%.
c) Presentation (P): 15%.
The final grade will be calculated with the following weighting: 0.65*CT + 0.20*D + 0.15*P (indicated with one decimal place). In the case of evaluation by the tutor, the final grade cannot exceed 8.0.
Once the project has been submitted and the defense conditions verified, failure to appear at the assigned defense date will result in a failing grade for that attempt.
The time dedicated to this subject is 300 hours, including personal work hours, face-to-face tutorials, and evaluation.
The Final Degree Project Committee is responsible for ensuring the proper development of all aspects related to this subject. It is recommended that students consult the TFG regulations and follow the information published by the Committee.
