Teaching: With teaching
Enrolment: Enrollable
The objectives of these practices are to achieve an adequate level of competence for the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of patients according to the area of rotation. This two weeks rotation will be entirely devoted to the area chosen by the student , including specific practices at the end of the course for which the student will be examined.
The rotation in the Emergency Department and Central Services including Preventive Medicine, Radiology, Otorhinolaryngology, Dermatology, Ophthalmology, Pathology, Microbiology and Lab takes place in the last year of the degree (rotating course) are included, once the students have acquired the theoretical knowledge that will enable them to take this discipline.
The same as those recommended for the area corresponding theoretical subjects.
The skills described for each area in their specific practices will be applicable in this matter. Being a large number of areas, it is not possible to give its detailed description, but as a guideline, the aim with this rotation is to strengthen the knowledge acquired in the lectures and specific practices developed during the previous courses.
It will be based in clinical practice supervised by faculty of the corresponding area.
Contingency plan:
The competence to authorize the access of students to health centers is of the health authority (Consellería de Sanidad, SERGAS), so that access is subject to that authorization. This authorisation has always been assumed and has never been a limitation on clinical practice, but in the context of a pandemic we cannot rule out difficulties of access, as occurred in the second half of the 2019-20 academic year.
Clinical practice is irreplaceable. Any measure we can take will be an attempt to "save" a teaching process in a situation never before experienced in the recent past. It is this exceptional situation that forces us to make exceptional decisions to safeguard the health of the population in the most effective way possible.
In any case, overcoming the subject may require, it is so established, a minimum of 50% of the planned practice hours if agreed, and the extension of the timetable and the practice schedule cannot be ruled out in order to complete the training activity, without prejudice to the general regulations established by the USC.
Teaching:
Scenario 1: Adapted normality.
Practical teaching will be essentially face-to-face. Tutorials may be face-to-face or virtual. Institutional tools and platforms will be used (Virtual Classroom-Moodle and Microsoft Teams...).
Scenario 2: Distance learning.
In Scenario 2 the health authority could limit the performance of clinical practice in hospitals or even decree the suspension of it. In this context, if the situation so requires, attendance could be reduced by up to 50%, going to the hospital in subgroups on alternate days or weeks or other options according to the indications of the health authority.
Basic and advanced simulation and non-presential activities such as elaboration of works, resolution of cases and others constitute useful tools in this scenario. For that, institutional tools and platforms will be used (Virtual Classroom-Moodle and Microsoft Teams...) if agreed .
In this context, the extension of the timetable and the practice schedule cannot be ruled out in order to complete the training activity, without prejudice to the general regulations established by the USC.
Scenario 3: Closure of the facilities.
In Scenario 3 the health authority could decree the suspension of clinical practice. In this context, attendance could be reduced to 50%. Basic and advanced simulation and non-presential activities such as preparation of papers, resolution of cases and others are available tools. For that, institutional tools and platforms will be used (Virtual Classroom-Moodle and Microsoft Teams...) if agreed.
In this context, the extension of the timetable and the practice schedule to complete the training activity is not discarded, without prejudice to the general regulations established by the USC.
Continuous assessment of knowledges and abilities of the student, by the responsible tutor. The tutor will qualify the student as suitable or unsuitable, being necessary to be suitable to pass and perform the clinical
cases exam, at the end of clinical rotations. The exam will consist of a battery of test questions with answers, of which only one is valid (the wrong answer subtract score, 1 for every 3 wrong).

Evaluation: Scenarios 1 and 2.
A continuous evaluation will be carried out according to the described in the teaching guide with a value of 6 points out of 10.
The final tests will be held in person in scenario 1, and whenever possible in scenario 2.
Scenario 3. The final tests will be carried out using telematic resources in the way that the coordinator of the subject has decided depending on the situation. If deemed necessary, a final oral test could be held in specific cases of students with technical difficulties.
Each student makes a 2 consecutive weeks stay in an emergency department or one of the central services of his choice depending on availability, including at least one guard (77 hours and 5 hours personal study). A week of practice represents a presentiality of 35 hours (8:00 am to 15:00 pm Monday to Friday) to which must be added 7 hours on each guard (from 15.00 to 22.00).
