1. Know and be able to apply in the practice the general principles of the surgery, instrumental, equipment and protocols of work.
2. Prepare, attend and monitor to the surgical patient during all the perioperative.
3. @Realizar basic surgical procedures like sutures, control of bleedings, placing of bandages and immobilizations, realisation of priests and administration of the medication and cares.
4. Carry out an exploration of the ophthalmologic patient, by means of the employment of basic and sophisticated teams, the selection of the diagnostics proofs and the application of the most suitable treatment.
5. Apply the knowledges purchased to carry out the exploration of the surgical patient, select the complementary diagnostics proofs and interpret the symptoms and injuries of suitable form and propose the ideal treatment
6. Develop a clinical mentality, that comprise the general steps of the surgical performance of a coherent and systematic way.

INTERACTIVE SESSIONS
Before a student was in conditions to develop the own activities the surgical area has to purchase some practical knowledges and skills that allow him obtain the greater performance of his stay in the Service of Surgery of the University Veterinary Hospital Rof Codina (HVURC). Thus, they have programmed the following interactive sessions:
Sutures (4 hours). They carry out in synthetic models until achieving achieving perform distinct patterns of suture easily, familiarize with the properties of the main materials used in veterinary surgery, purchase the correct handle of the instrumental (needle holders, tissue forceps, scissors, etc.), as well as be able to choose the pattern of suture that better adapt to the circumstances of the surgical and patient intervention.
Surgical and instrumental area (2 h). An explanatory route is made through all the dependencies that form part of the installations of surgery (changing rooms, preparation and recovery of the patient, operating room, sterilization, etc.) detailing the activities and the protocol of work in each zone, as well as the correct way to dress and comport in each one. Later the student must prepare and organize the instrumental and surgical material in the table, being able to know the ergonomic way to use them and his functions.
Preparation of the patient and of the surgical personnel (2 h). It practices the way to prepare, dress and comport properly in the operating room, including the antiseptic wash and dried of the hands, the dress beat it barren and plant the barren gloves. In a synthetic model, they practice the positioning of the patient, the placing of the fields and the subjection with the of field. In the room of sterilization participates in the successive stages of preparation of the material and instrumental surgical until his sterilization. It includes the decontamination by means of employment of enzymatic soaps and washing machine by ultrasounds, the dried, preparation the box of instrumental, packed (paper, stock exchanges or boxes of instrumental) and handle of autoclaves (selection of the program of sterilization).
Bandages (2 h). In this practice works first with distinct materials usually employed for the bandages, including the splints. Later, employing synthetic models, to practice different types of basic bandages, especially Robert-Jones, in the extremities of small and big animals.
Clinic of Ophthalmology (3 h). It carries out in the query and operating room of the hospital with real cases. In each session, they carry out a basic general and complete ophthalmological exploration of the patient, argue and reason the differential diagnostics, fills up the corresponding clinical index card and prescribes the surgical treatment and/or corresponding doctor by means of the use of the veterinary recipe. It loans special attention to the use of the distinct teams of available diagnostic (direct and indirect ophthalmoscope, tonometer, lamp of hinderer, surgical microscope, electroretinograph, phacoemulsifier, etc.) and the application of special diagnostic proofs (fluorescein or rose Bengala staining, Schirmer test, etc.). The students will assist to operating room if there are surgeries programmed, being able to exert like assistants in any of them.
Hospital guard (7 h). The student incorporates to the team of the Service of Attention Continued to perform or help in the measure of his possibilities in the own tasks of a service of attention to the admitted patients in the hospital and those that attend for urgencies. It will take place at nights (of Monday to Sunday, festive included) in schedule of 8 pm to 8 am, and during the day at weekends and holydays, in schedule of 8 am to 8 pm. Each student only has one hospital session (a night, for example) and will elaborate a memory written with the patients seen during the session (urgencies and hospitalized). Later it will make a brief oral exhibition of the seen and will answer to the doubts arisen and other questions that pose him his mates and/or the educational.

Stage 1 (adapted normality)
Lectures with ICT support and the systematic use of the Virtual Campus as support teaching. Presential lectures will require the application of hygiene measures determined by the authorities (hydrogel, mandatory mask, minimum safety distance). Exceptionally, classroom teaching may be combined with virtual teaching up to 10% of the total hours of the subject.
Tutoring will be mainly face-to-face, nevertheless virtual sessions can be scheduled but respecting the time slots shown in the 2020-21 course calendar.
Practical sessions: 100% presence observing the hygiene measures determined by the authorities (hydrogel, mandatory mask, minimum safety distance).
Practices are carried out in the University Veterinary Hospital Rof Codina and in the Laboratory of Clinical Skills in schedule of morning for the ruled clinical practices and will explain of bulletins or manual that serve him of guide, whereas the shift on nocturnal schedule, weekends and festive to distribute them the more individual as possible. The student will aim to each type of practices; the groups of practices are totally independent. Each student only has to participate on call hospitable session and present a written memory with the cases seen during the turn (urgencies and admitted patients). For this have electronic access to the clinical index cards of the hospital. Later it will submit a brief oral exhibition of the seen and will answer to the doubts and other questions of his mates and/or the professor.
For the independent study, the student can consult the recommended bibliography and any another material collected during the masterclasses and the practical sessions.
In the event of an incident causing the change of the scenario 1 previously described, see the modifications specified in the “contingency plan” in the final comment section.
Stage 1 (adapted normality)
The final qualification is composed by the sum of 2 independent parts. To surpass the matter is necessary to approve each one of them:
- 40% it corresponds to the continuous assessment and the practices. Will value the personal work of the student during the classes by means of different proofs: control of assistance, realization of exercises written -programmed or no-, active participation in the classroom, etc. Also, will value individually to the student in each one of the interactive sessions (participation, skills purchased, practical application of the theoretical knowledges, dedication and interest during guard duty, resolution of the cases and problems, etc.). This part surpasses obtaining 5 points on 10.
To be able to perform the final examination is necessary to assist to 100% of the practical sessions.
- 60% theoretical written exam that evaluates the knowledges purchased in the sessions and interactive. The examination will consist of ask type test of multiple answer (with 4 answers, where, like minimum, one is true) and short questions. This part surpasses obtaining 5 points on 10.
Biosecurity norms can be consulted in the Aula Virtual, of the student must always read and respect them; any doubt in this regard it will be resolved by the professor.
While situation of sanitary risk of contagion is present, is compulsory the use of mask in all the cases. Depending of practice type, is compulsory the use of gloves disposable, beat of laboratory, surgical pajamas or clogs and is clearly indicated in the information of the Aula Virtual. To be able to develop the work is necessary to bring basic material of dissection: scalpel, tissue forceps without tooth, scissors, and needle holder.
To the entrance of the rooms appear the basic biosecurity norms that the students has to observe in the enclosure; any doubt in this regard it will be resolved by the professor. Incidentally, they will keep or they will implement the hygiene measures in function of the sanitary recommendations of the moment (wash of hands, hydrogel, mandatory mask when it was not possible to guarantee the minimum distance of security, etc.).
In case of plagiarism, fraud or undue use of the technologies during the realisation of the telematic proofs, will be of application the collected in the “Normativa de avaliación do rendemento académico dos estudantes e de revisión de cualificacións”.
In case that the sanitary situation of the region requires it, will have to observe the modifications of the system of evaluation contemplated in the epigraph of “Contingency Plan”, collected in the section of “Observations”.

PLAN OF CONTINGENCY
METHODOLOGY OF THE EDUCATION
Stage 2 (distancing):
• Lectures delivered electronically through Ms Teams, Skype, Zoom or any other platform approved for that purpose. These sessions will count with the Virtual Campus as support to the teaching.
• Autonomous practical work in small groups and supervised by the lecturer. The duration of the practices may be reduced by up to 50%, depending on health recommendations, in order to enhance the security measures and maintain the same time slots for each group. In this case, telematic training activities will complement the interactive teaching. Hygienic measures will be mandatory and reinforced in accordance with the recommendation of the authorities at the time (hydrogel, mandatory mask, safety distance or other)
• Independent study of each student.
• Tutorials, only telematic.
Stage 3 (closure of the faculty):
All teaching activities will be carried out telematically through platforms enabled for this purpose, complemented with the use of the Virtual Campus and respecting the schedules established in the academic calendar 2020-21.
ASSESSMENT SYSTEM
Regular attendance to the telematic lectures and mandatory to the programmed telematic practical activities. In order to be able to take the exam, it is necessary to attend 100% of the practical sessions –both the face-to-face work and the work carried out in a telematic way through the enabled platforms–.
- The final examination of the subject will be carried out telematically or, if circumstances allow, in person. The other conditions do not change with respect to that described in Scenario 1. Command of the global knowledges by means of final examination of the complete subject: 60% of the global qualification.
This exam will be carried out through live streaming (VIRTUAL CLASSROOM and MS TEAMS) respecting the time slots shown in course calendar.
- Command of the theoretical and practical knowledges by means of continuous evaluation during the development of the practices: 40% of the global qualification. The continuous evaluation of the practical activity will do by means of the combination of face-to-face and telematic proofs, so much synchronous like asynchronous.
It is necessary to obtain a minimum of 5 points (on 10) in each part (theory and practical) to surpass the matter and proceed to calculate the half note final.
In case of plagiarism, fraud or improper use of technologies for the realization of the telematic tests, the provisions of the “Normativa de avaliación do rendemento académico dos estudantes e de revisión de cualificacións” will apply.

- Command of the theoretical and practical knowledges by means of continuous evaluation during the development of the virtual practical activities: 50% of the global qualification. The continuous evaluation of the practical activity will carry out by means of synchronous or asynchronous telematic.
It is necessary to obtain a minimum of 5 points (on 10) in each part (theory and practical) to surpass the matter and proceed to calculate the half note final.
