Quei che le mura empion di sogni. Lanzarote y la Dama del Lago en el norte de Italia
The Arthurian frescoes in the castle of Frugarolo were executed between 1390 and 1393 for the condottiere Andreino Totti, who was linked not only to Pope Boniface IX, but also to Gian Galeazzo Visconti. The study takes stock of the issue, which has already provoked an extensive bibliography, and proposes a stylistic and content re-examination of the fifteen preserved fragments, which are also analysed in the light of a comparison with miniatures found in Arthurian codices. In this way, the tastes of the patron and the cultural significance, both aesthetic and socio-political, of the pictorial cycle are questioned.
