For the articulation of RP /ʌ/ the jaws are considerably separated and the centre of the tongue is raised just above the fully open position. The lips are neutral and no contact is made between the tongue and the upper molars. Its quality is similar to CV 4 /a/, but slightly centralised and closer: [ä˔] [ɐ].
