Curriculum vitae. Master's degree in Periodontics. Master's degree in Dental Sciences or equivalent. Continuing education course in Periodontics from the University of Santiago. Knowledge of English and computer skills.
Objectives
The replacement of missing teeth using implant-supported restorations has demonstrated a high long-term survival rate. Therefore, the use of dental implants to replace missing teeth is becoming increasingly common.Currently, it is estimated that approximately one and a half million implants are placed each year in Spain.
Furthermore, recent studies have shown a high prevalence of mucositis (20%) and peri-implantitis (27%) at the implant level: 27% and 24%, respectively, at the patient level.
Preventing this high rate of dental implant complications depends on specialized training. The correct use of periodontal surgical techniques, as well as advanced knowledge of periodontics, will ensure our students are able to prevent and properly treat peri-implant problems.
In addition, students must be trained in the management of soft tissues applied to implant surgery (displaced flaps, free gingival grafts, connective tissue grafts, etc.), all of which are techniques derived from the knowledge and management of periodontal plastic surgery.
Career options
Administer local anesthesia. Diagnose dental abnormalities. Assess patient therapeutic needs. Interpret medical images. Adapt to newly designed materials.Evaluation
Theoretical and practical exams. Preparation and presentation of clinical cases. Research papers and bibliographic reviews. Treatment of a minimum of 10 patients throughout the course and upon completion of the master's degree, with a minimum of 10 in maintenance. Final exam with external evaluators and those from the USC.
