Lecture: «Activation of B‐B and B‐InterElement towards selective functionalities»

Prof. Elena Fernández (TECAT - Centre d'Innovació en Catàlisi, University Rovira i Virgili)
CiQUS Seminar Room - 10:00 h.
Taking advantage of the pull-push effect of B, we collect a series of accessible functionalities via B-B and B -interElement reagents that can be activated by simple methodologies and added to unsaturated substrates to generate new bonds in a precise way.
About the speaker
Dr. Fernández obtained her MChem degree from the University of Barcelona (Spain) in 1991. She began her research career with a PhD in catalytic hydroformylation of sugars with Prof. Sergio Castillón and Dr. Aurora Ruiz at the University Rovira i Virgili (Spain). She then carried out Post-doctoral studies with Prof. John M. Brown at the University of Oxford (UK) where she developed an approach towards the first catalytic asymmetric hydroboration-amination reaction. She finally returned to Tarragona to take a lecturer position at the University Rovira i Virgili and was awarded with permanent staff status in 2000.
Since then, Dr. Fernández is full professor from the ANECA (National Agency for Quality Assessment and Accreditation) of Spain in 2011 and obtained the National Award on Excellence of Research in Organometallic Chemistry in 2014 from the Spanish RSC as well as the Award on Excellence of Research in Chemistry in 2017 from the Spanish RSC. As of 2010 she is a member of the scientific committee of the Euroboron and as of 2014 also a member of the Advisory Board in Chemical Society Reviews (Chem. Soc. Rev.). Research in the Fernández group focusses on finding new concepts for the activation and reactivity of borane compounds.
