Face-to-face defence

Notification

After the authorisation of the defence, the secretary of the examining committee, or on their behalf, the coordinator of the CAPD, must notify within 7 calendar days before the defence date and by email to the EDIUS that the defence will be done in person and indicating the following: date, place and time of the act of reading.

For this, a notification model is made available from the School (see document). Authorisations will be formalised based on the date of the defence, with the defences of the current month being processed first.

Act of defence

The defence must be held in a public session during the teaching period in the academic calendar (excluding the month of August, which is not suitable for all purposes) and will take place in a centre of the USC.

It will be carried out within a time limit of three months from its authorisation, except for reasons duly justified and authorisedby the School Committee. If the time limit has been exceeded, the authorisation procedures for the thesis must be resumed for its defence.

Notice. During the entire defence, it is requested that no one present in the room has telephones or any other audiovisual device that distracts or disturbs the panel, the candidate or the audience. Only members of the examining board will be allowed to use laptops or other devices to follow the presentation and discussion of the doctoral thesis.

After the defence

Delivery of the minutes in electronic format signed by the secretary of the examining committee following the instructions indicated by the EDIUS.

The corresponding service will transfer the defence data onto the Xescampus application.

The PhD student may pay the deposit of the doctoral degree in the Academic Management Service.

The administrative staff supporting the doctoral programme must do the following in the Theseus application:

- Include, check and modify, as appropriate, the definite examining committee associated with the thesis.

- Score the thesis in the application by including the qualification obtained for the thesis.

- Notify the EDIUS (edius [at] usc.es (edius[at]usc[dot]es)) that the thesis sheet has already been completed.
