Indo-European Seminar: An Introduction to Ancient Slavic (Old Church Slavonic and Old Russian).
1. Basic knowledge of the grammar of Ancient Slavic.

1. Introduction.
-- The Slavic linguistic group among the Indo-European Languages: Indo-European, Balto-Slavic, Slavic branch, Old Church Slavonic, East Slavic ic (Russian, Ukrainian, Bielorussian), West Slavic (Polish, Polabian, Pomeranian, Cachubian, Slovincian, Sorbian, Czech, Slovak), South Slavic (Slovenian, Serbo-Croatian, Montenegrin, Bosnian, Bulgarian, Macedonian). Outline of culture, history and archaeology of the Slavic peoples.
2. Phonetics and Phonology.
-- The different writing systems of the ancient Slavic languages (glagolitic, cyrillic, adaptations from the Latin scripture).
-- Historical phonology of the Slavic Languages: vowels, consonants, problems of phonologic interpretation.
3. Morphology and Syntax.
-- Historical morphology of the Slavic Languages: nominal and pronominal morphology, verbal morphology. Indeclinable words.
-- Syntactical overview.
4. Practical section.
-- Lecture, transcription, translation and linguistic-comparative commentary of Ancient Slavic texts, mainly from Old Church Slavonic and Old Russian.

The course is thought as totally contact. From the three hours a week for lessons, one hour will be devoted to theory, and two to practical problems. This practical section -- conceived as the true core of the course -- will consist of lecture, translation, and linguistic commentary of Ancient Slavic (mainly Old Church Slavonic and Old Russian) texts. The texts will be available to the students through the on-line Virtual Campus, both in its original scripts as in its normalized transcription.
Valid for both opportunities: there will be a final exam (75% of importance for the final mark) consisting of the translation and linguistic commentary of an Ancient Slavic text, based on the contents of the lectures, or on the recommended bibliography. For the final mark will be rated as well (25%) the active participation of the students in the practical lectures. The students with exemption of attendance to the lectures will be valued exclusively from the final exam.
6-ECTS credits subject (6x25 = 150 hours of total student's workload).
These credits consist of 3 theoretical and 3 practical.
Work directed by the teacher: 75 h (50%): 42 h (56%) of contact sessions (three hours a week) and 33 h (44%) of directed non-contact activity.
Autonomous student's work: 75 h (50%).
Each activity will be distributed by hours as follows:
Theoretical sessions: 18 h contact and 37 h autonomous work.
Practical sessions: 18 h contact and 37 h autonomous work (including 3 h of directed work).
Lectures + debate: 2 h contact and 15 h non-contact directed lecture.
Work + debate: 2 h contact and 15 h non-contact work.
Specialised tutorials: 2 h contact y 4 h autonomous work.
Participating regularly and continuously at the lessons is highly recommended, For the acquisition of skill in translating is essential to adapt oneself to a regular working habit. The acquisition of skills in using the several available materials (grammars, dictionaries, on-line resources) will be combined with the gradual introduction of the students into the lecture of original Ancient Slavic (mainly Old Church Slavonic and Old Russian) texts.
PLAN DE CONTINXENCIA
(1) Metodoloxía e recursos:
(a) No caso de que sexa de aplicación o "Escenario 2: distanciamento", das "Directrices para o desenvolvemento dunha docencia presencial segura" da USC, combinarase a docencia presencial coa virtual. A docencia expositiva será impartida maioritariamente de xeito virtual. Será unha combinación de 'síncrona' e 'asíncrona'. O profesor canalizará as directrices da explicación e os materiais complementarios para a súa implementación a través dos medios dispoñibles da USC, como a Aula Virtual, o correo electrónico, Teams, Skype, Zoom, etc. A docencia práctica interactiva será impartida maioritariamente de xeito presencial. O profesor proporalles aos estudantes os textos previstos para a súa lectura, comprensión e comentario. Os alumnos prepararán os textos, que serán revisados e comentados de xeito presencial e, de ser preciso, a través da Aula Virtual.
(b) No caso de que sexa de aplicación o "Escenario 3: peche das instalacións", das "Directrices para o desenvolvemento dunha docencia presencial segura" da USC, a docencia será únicamente virtual. Tratarase dunha combinación de docencia 'sincrona' e 'asíncrona'. O profesor seguirá a mesma metodoloxía ca na parte virtual do Escenario 2.
Nos dous escenarios contemplados, especialmente no caso do peche das instalacións, o profesor poderá levar a cabo reunións virtuais a través de Skype, Teams, Zoom, etc.
(2) Sistema de avaliación:
No caso de que sexan de aplicación as "Directrices para o desenvolvemento dunha docencia presencial segura" da USC: Tendo en conta o sistema de avaliación contemplado no caso do "Escenario 1: normalidade adaptada" —avaliación continua e traballo final—, manterase o mesmo para os supostos de aplicación dos escenarios 2: "distanciamento" e 3: "peche das instalacións".
