The objective of this subject is not to provide a complete knowledge about these topics, which have been the content of other subjects already taken, but to elicit in the student the ability to examine the economic, social and institutional dimensions of a certain society throughout historical time, verify the amplitude of the changes that have taken place and adequately evaluate the historiographic concept of "feudal society" through the use of primary and secondary sources.
They are structured in the following thematic lines:
1. The evolution of the king's power at the governmental, judicial, legislative, fiscal and military levels: from the Asturian kingdom to the Crown of Castile.
2. Progressive changes in the central, territorial and local administrative apparatus.
3. The sources of taxation: from royalty and rural manor to direct and indirect taxes on the entire kingdom.
4. The changing relationships between social groups: monarchy, nobility, church, urban groups and peasantry.
5. The authority of the Papacy and the insertion of the kingdom in Western Europe.
