The methodology used to have students fulfil the objectives and acquire the competences assigned to the Practicum will include the following elements:
1. Standard training activities in external practical work to be conducted in a centre outside the University under the continuous supervision and technical support of two tutors: an academic and other professional related to the practical center. Both of them will establish the specific activities to be conducted by the student to be supervised in accordance with a previously established programme.
2. Alternatively, some students will be able to engage in an “Internal Practicum” the specificities of which will be announced in the “Practicum offer” for each academic year.
3. As a supplement to the practical activities of either type of Practicum, students will be trained in the Psychologist’s Deontological Code via classes and seminars (20 in-class hours in all) of compulsory attendance to be held prior to starting practical work at the University or outside.
4. Practicum students will have no access to classes or exams during their practice period. Students are to start work at their allocated practice centres when and as instructed by their academic tutors, who will grant permission for contacting the centres and supply the following information and documents:
• The student’s credentials.
• A confidentiality compromise.
• The Practicum assessment questionnaire.
• The practice centre’s contact information and enrollment conditions.
• The activity programme.
5. At the end of the practical training period, students are to deliver a Practicum Report to their academic tutors. As a rule, the Report must contain a description of the practice centre, the activities conducted towards developing the established professional competences and the students’ own assessment of their work. Each tutor will provide specific guidelines for preparing the Report in accordance with the particular recipient centre, even though memory is recommended that follow the format of Europsy model .
WARNING: Those students wishing to defend their End-of-Studies Project (ESP) in July must hand in their Practicum Report during June’s academic assessment period.
Students will be jointly assessed by the academic and the professional tutor for their degree of acquisition of the general professional competences, the specific and transversal competences developed during work at the practice centre and the Practicum Report. The final grade will be the result of the following weighting: the professional tutor will comprise 60% and of 40% academic tutor. As a requirement to pass the subject, the student will have to attend the the course on the Psychologist’s Deontological code, as well as the formative courses organized by the Faculty and given by the professional colaborators of the Practicum. Likewise, the student must fulfill the requiments established at the practice centre and the Practicum Report.
To obtain the 12 ETCS credits allocated to the Practicum, students are estimated to require a total of 300 hours of work between the following activities:
• Attendance of the course on the Psychologist’s Deontological code.
• Work at the practice centre (80% of the practice period).
• Preparation of the tasks to be conducted at the centre (reading, activity planning, intervention design) (20% of the practice period).
• Production of the Report.
Enrolling in the Practicum requires previously obtaining at least 150 compulsory credits (all of the first and second year included).
Students in the process of fulfilling the requirements in the second semester of the year must pre-enroll in the subject and tick the following choice in the form: “Aspiro a cumplir los requisitos para matricularme en el Prácticum en el 2º semestre”.
Students in this situation are advised to enroll in the Practicum in the second common enrollment period.
WARNING: Students must meet the established requirements in the second semester of the academic year and attend the course on the deontological code in order to gain access to the Practicum.
The Faculty’s Practicum Management Unit will allocate vacancies with provision for the applicants’ preferences, academic record and family residence. Also, enrolling in some practice centres may require previously passing subjects of the study programme closely related to the professional activities to be developed there.
Each student will be assigned a professional tutor from the practice centre and an academic tutor from the Faculty staff.
