This course is intended to introduce students to the processing of large volumes of data (be it spatial or aspatial), with a strong emphasis on replicability of analysis. After successfully passing this course, students should be able to:

These basic contents are developed along the course duration along 14 sessions of 1.5 hours of duration (0.5 h of theoretical contents and 1 h of practical contents):
- Introduction.
- Initial setup of the workspace.
- Data import and export.
- Data wrangling.
- Graphics output: ggplot2.
- Graphics export.
- Vector spatial data: sf.
- Raster spatial data: terra.
- Map output: tmap, leaflet.
- Spatial interpolation.
- Statistical inference.
- Linear models (I).
- Linear models (II).
- Classification methods.

Assessment of students’ performance will be based on three components:
A minimum of 50 points will be required for a passing grade. There will be no minimum required grade in each of the three components. Only the projects and the written test will be repeated in the second evaluation opportunity. Students enrolled for a second time in the course can ask for the grade of one or two of the elements to be kept.
Assignments and projects will evaluate competences CG01, CG03, CG04, CB8, CB9, CB10, CT01, CE04, CE07. Written test will evaluate competences CG02, CB6, CB7, CE05, CE06.
Students exempt of attendance to classes will follow the same assessment system.
The USC Norm for Assessment of Academic Performance will be automatically applied if fraud or fabrication of assessment materials is detected.
This course includes 9 hours of theoretical lectures, 12 hours of practical lectures, and implies around 54 hours of personal work.
It is advisable that students have access to a personal computer in order to install the software applications used in class.
