This week, Máster in Chemistry at the Interface with Biology and Materials Science (ChemBio&Mat) closed the 2021/2022 academic year. The closing sessions, that began on Monday with the defense of the research initiation projects, were held at CiQUS. During these days we had the opportunity to asses the work being donde by the Master´s students in this subject, says program coordinator Juan R. Granja who highlights both the quality of the projects and their presentations. The wide variety of topics covered is remarkable, ranging from the study of new microbial agents and their interaction with biological membranes, to the development of abiotic metalloenzymes to carry out new chemical reacitons or the research of ancient materials such as the fossils found in Atapuerca. “Two of our students completed their internships this year at CIC Biomagune (País Vasco), conducting innovativa projects that may serve to establish new collaborations between the research groups of both centres”, adds Granja.

The programme continued on Tuesday afternoon with the poster session, where the students clearly summarised their research on a panel. During this time, the students discussed their work with a very special guest, Prof. David Amabilino from ICMAB-CSIC. Prof. Amabilino closed the event with a brilliant lecture on molecular systems in which small molecules are driven over a surface by light: Dynamic Supramolecular Gels. “My advice to students is to continue with their research work and to benefit from this unique opportunity to reinforce their training by getting involved in projects at the frontier of knowledge” concludes Granja. Those students who are finishing their degree this year and who are interested in joining this ambitious training programme still have until 19 July to apply for admission.
