The basic objectives are:
- To assimilate the fundamentals and basic knowledge of the history of Applied and Industrial arts.
- Know and understand the characteristics of Applied and Industrial arts.
- Understanding the different formal and visual languages, and get to know the different artistic techniques that are an inherent part of the Applied arts and of the Industrial phenomenon.
Tema 1. Épocas antigua y medieval. 1.1. Antigüedad. Egipto. Interiores de los palacios. Mobiliario. Grecia. Interiores de viviendas y mobiliario. Roma: recursos decorativos y mobiliario en las domus y villae. Palacios imperiales. Luxus y luxuria. 1.2. Final de la Antigüedad. Bizancio y los palacios de Constantinopla. Edad Media. Interiores de los castillos. Disposición y decoración del Great Hall. Tapices. Mobiliario litúrgico y civil. Mobiliario gótico. Interiores de las casas burguesas.
Tema 2. Época moderna. 2.1. Renacimiento. Italia: nuevas pautas y refinamientos en la decoración de interiores. Interiores de los palacios urbanos. Mobiliario. Los cassoni. Nuevos recursos: pinturas al fresco y estucos. Siglo XVI. Francia e Inglaterra. España y el mobiliario del Siglo de Oro. 2.2. Barroco. Italia y los interiores de palacios romanos. Venecia y la fabricación de vidrio. Francia. La época de Louis XIV. Grandilocuencia y clasicismo en los interiores de Versailles. Mobiliario barroco y piezas decorativas. Importación de objetos orientales. Muebles lacados. Hôtels parisinos. Viviendas de élites en el resto de Europa. Holanda. Oro y plata para la escena sagrada. 2.3. Siglo XVIII. Francia. Louis XV. Students will be able to:
- Analyze and interpret critically the specific issues and historiographical assessment of the applied arts.
- Perform a technical and formal analysis of works of applied art in a comprehensive manner.
- Get a diachronic view of the evolution of applied arts in relation to the main styles and artwork of each period.
- Analyze and interpret works of applied art in its historical, cultural, social, economic, ideological or religious value, form, function or meaning.
- Analyze, organize and interpret information from different literature sources and other sources of information on these artistic matters .
- Analyze and synthesize the acquired knowledge .
- To master the technical vocabulary of the subject
- Apply knowledge rigorously through new technologies.
- Lectures on the theoretical concepts.
- Interactive classes in which the activities will be practical and related to th theoretical content of the material. Practical classes will include a field trip to a museum and / or exhibitions.

The assessment will consist of three parts: written test (examination), class participation
seminars and work practices and personal work, which will include a classroom presentation.
The written test will account for 40% of the final grade.
Practical classes, participation in seminars and completion of the work will account for 40% of the final grade.
Attendance at lectures and practices is mandatory and will account for 20% of the final grade. Failing to attend more than the 20% of the lectures and practices will result in the impossibility of being evaluated in the first opportunity in may-june.
The student that has not completed the Interactive Teaching should pass the Theoretical Exam and complete the whole Interactive Teaching Dossier.
Following the Instruction Nº 1/2017 of Secretaría Xeral, students who are exempt from attendance in certain situations will be evaluated with a specific final exam (100%). Exemption from attendance must be authorized in advance by the university.
