To do basic treatments in patients of all ages. Treatment procedures should be based on the minimal invasive concept and in a global focus view of the patient pathology.
For stablishing such diagnostic and treatment plan the dentist should acquire the following competences:
- To take and interpretate periapical x-rays series and other image based procedures, important for the working in dentistry.
- to determine and identify the esthetics patients requirements and the viability of reaching patient´s expectations.
For stablishing an adequate treatment, dentist should be competent in:
- Right drug prescription, being aware of its contraindications, interactions, systemic effects and side effects over other organs.
- To apply local anesthesia techniques.
- To treat both non-surgical and surgical early inflamatory periodontal and/or peri-implant pathology, including supra and sub-gingival techniques.
To have knowledge of advanced periodontal treatments.
The theoretical part will be given by lectures. Different clinical cases will be discussed in seminars. All these cases shall be adapted to the theoretical part and the students will interact with the professor. In lab and clinical practices will be applied all the theoretical concepts acquired by the students. Problems based learning shall be applied and the students will present all their personal work. In this sense the students will be organized in groups tutored by a monitor.
-Continue evaluation: personal work and skill will be evaluated along the year to check the competences acquired.
-2 writing exams will be done (at the end of each semester). The student shall show his/her knowledge and capacity to solve the problems treated during the year. (60% of the final mark)
For the evaluation of the clinical practices , the following criteria will be taken into account:(40% of the final mark)
1. Ergonomics.
2. Hygiene and sterilization.
3. Intercourse with patients.
4. Ability to carry out a treatment plan.
5. Knowledge and use of the instruments.
6. Knowledge of the different techniques.
7. Surgical skills.
Individual work (studying) : 100 hours
Practical memory : 10 hours
PBL (problems based learning work): 30 hours
recommended lecturing, library activities an others: 20 hours
Other recommended activities: 20 hours
Attendance to lectores and interactive sesiones is crucial for the leearning objectives. The study of recommended papera for each topic is also important to pass the subject. Moreover, the students must follow the teachers indications and daily study of the topics dealt at class.
