In the subject Optics and Instrumentation Design students will acquire the necessary knowledge in the field of design optimized optical components as well as in the design of optical instruments. These knowledgements will enable to confront in the design of new optical techniques of image formation, detection or measurement of optical properties. Among the specific objectives emphasize that the student:
-will acquire the basic knowledge required for the design of optical components
- will acquire the basic principles of the design of advanced optical instruments.
- Will learn to simulate the response of imaging optical systems.
In this section, no changes are foreseen in relation to possible changes in the teaching scenario due to the evolution of Covid-19.
Theory of aberrations: Wave aberrations, ray aberrations. Compensation of aberrations
Design of optical components: Composition of multiple surfaces. Merit functions. Optimization
Advanced instrumentation: Optical coherence tomography. Confocal microscopy. Optical tweezers.

In this subject the student will acquire and practice a series of basic skills, desirable in any basic degree, and specific skills in the field of optical design and instrumentation. Among the specific competences, highlight:

Acquire the ability to write texts, articles or scientific reports according to publication standards.
Become familiar with the different modalities used for the dissemination of results and knowledge in scientific meetings.
Apply knowledge to solve complex problems.
Possess and understand knowledge that provides a basis or opportunity to be original in the development and / or application of ideas, often in a research context.
That students know how to apply the knowledge acquired and their ability to solve problems in new or unfamiliar environments within broader (or multidisciplinary) contexts related to their area of study.

The subject will taught in the class hours, using all the audiovisual means that are available and that make the matter enjoyable and formative for the student. The student will be given all the base material necessary for the study of the subject. The student will have tutoring hours when needed
Covid Scenario: In case it is not possible for the teachers or students to attend the classes, the communication will be carried out by telematic means.
Attendance is compulsory in 100% of the classroom activities of the course and will contribute to 60% of the grade. The remaining 40% will be achieved by exposing or preparing works and / or solving problems.
However, according to current regulations, all students will have the right to take a final exam.
The presentation of works, problems and even the final exam will be carried out telematically in case a Covid 19 scenario does not allow attendance.
