Susana López, born in Orense (Spain) in 1961, studied chemistry at the University de Santiago de Compostela (Spain) where she received her PhD in 1988 under the supervisión of Profs. Luis Castedo and Carmen Villaverde for research on isolation and synthesis of new cularine-type alkaloids.

She spent one-year (1988-1989) as a MEC postdoctoral research associate at National Institutes of Health (NIH), Bethesda, MD (USA), working with Dr. S. S. Simons on synthesis and biological evaluation of new steroids, potential affinity labels for glucocorticoid receptor.

In 1989 she joined at the University de Santiago de Compostela as Assistant Professor and, since 1994, as Profesora Titular.

Her research interest centers on the synthesis of bioactive compounds, mainly focused in polyenes (retinoids) and polyacetylenes, and the organometallic chemistry of unsaturated compounds.
