International Conference on Migrations and Refuge in Europe

Learning and Serving from the University

Presentation

The situation of migrants and refugees in Europe continues to require urgent attention and proactive intervention to ensure the greatest possible well-being in difficult circumstances. In this regard, universities have demonstrated their potential to mobilize adequate resources within their institutions and through their relationships with significant social, economic, and cultural agencies.

We are therefore convinced of the opportunity this Congress presents in the City of Compostela on July 10th and 11th, 2025. The aim is to highlight, alongside constructive educational policies in higher education, those practices or projects designed and carried out at various universities, in close collaboration with third-sector entities, focused on the inclusion of migrants and refugees within the territory of the European Union or other regions. To facilitate propositional ideas around such a current and complex issue, we prioritize dynamics that can connect academic and social dimensions within a community perspective. This is reason enough to view educational innovation methodologies, which promote a 'situated engagement' (including service-learning), as an effective path for developing competencies of high cognitive, ethical, and civic value.
