Summary
In contemporary fiction, the boundaries between biography and invention are increasingly fluid. Through the lens of biofiction, literary figures like Virginia Woolf are not merely remembered, they are reimagined. The Hours constructs a multilayered narrative in which Woolf exists simultaneously as author, character, and cultural echo, challenging traditional ideas of authorship, memory, and historical truth. Feminist theory, metafictional techniques, and intergenerational storytelling converge to explore how literature can preserve, transform, and democratize legacy. Digital storytelling technologies further expand these possibilities, inviting readers to become participants in reshaping biographical meaning across media.

Summary
The coronavirus pandemic and its consequent lockdown had a notorious impact on the thought and cultural production of the society of their time. As a reaction to the new circumstances, the Middle Ages were used more often in culture. This paper seeks to explain this renewal of interest in the medieval in the middle of a global crisis. To this end, we have compiled medieval media that circulated between 2020 and 2021, that we will analized with the methodological help of neomedievalism. We will focus particularly on memes, as they functioned as one of the main communication tools during isolation.

Summary
This master’s thesis proposes the development and design of an online dictionary specifically tailored for advanced learners (B1-C1 CEFR levels) of Russian as a foreign language, focusing on idiomatic expressions that feature nouns as their main component. The study addresses the challenges learners face in mastering multi-word idiomatic lexemes, which are crucial for achieving communicative competence at intermediate and advanced levels. The research combines corpus-based analysis with pedagogical lexicography to ensure the selection of relevant, contemporary idioms from both literary and web-based sources, while excluding obsolete or infrequent expressions. The proposed dictionary structure emphasizes user-friendly access, multimedia integration, and clear presentation of semantic, grammatical, and contextual information. The methodology involves compiling an idiomatic minimum, analysing corpus frequency, and reviewing existing phraseological resources. The findings highlight the importance of digital lexicography in supporting language acquisition and suggest practical recommendations for dictionary design and implementation.

Summary
Some of the towns of the Mariña represent an important enclave within the Galician medieval urban phenomenon. But what happens when we want to see these cities in feminine terms? This work aims to delve into this void, carrying out research that focuses on the medieval women living on this coast. By means of a bibliographical review and consultation of local archives, an approach will be made to the different spaces with which these coastal ladies can be related. On the one hand, the legal space will be analysed, in which numerous women with power and influence are documented, especially visible in the market of patrimonial goods and in wills. On the other hand, the elite spaces will be examined, addressing the influence from the distance of royal figures and the prominence of lay aristocrats from a more local position. In addition, a study will be made of the spaces of religion, mainly of those women who were placed in monasteries, but also of the exceptional nature of the “emparedada” of Mondoñedo. We will also analyse the areas of work, through the specific jobs they carry out. In this way, in general, the different female entities will be dealt with, either with their own name or with the more imprecise but integrating anonymity.

Summary
The usage of the notion of liminality in space studies post-spatial turn meant a paradigm shift when it came to analyse certain places defined by their transitory characteristics, places where border indetermination determines a reality in itself. This is the case of frontier spaces, where the delimitation of the symbolic values that define the external is questioned. In the Galician context, frontier has historically enjoyed a productive representation in literature, given the importance it had in the formation of the communitarian identity, as well as its potential to build the fantastic, one of the most important autochtonous genres. This study pretends, using two contemporary novels, O bosque é grande e profundo by Manuel Darriba and Ninguén Queda by Brais Lamela, one realistic and one fantastic, dig deep in the way the frontier is built through the subversion and transformation of the border's significance, as well as evaluate the different results this elaboration presents based on the narrative paradigm It is inscribed upon.

Summary
The 12th century is a very useful period for studying the Galician Middle Ages. It is a time of general prosperity, during which the reigning paradigm had fully shifted to feudalism, accompanied by significant economic growth and the consequent rise in population. Furthermore, new major changes took shape also a result of this widespread prosperity such as monastic renewal and urban expansion, which in turn brought about social transformations of a more or less violent nature. This series of social, economic, and political factors created a perfect scenario for what would become the golden age of Galician literature and culture. From the Compostela seat, which had established itself as a political, spiritual, and now cultural capital, a multitude of studies and publications were promoted, culminating in its two great masterpieces: the Codex Calixtinus and the Historia Compostelana. These works would change the way history was written not only within the kingdom but also beyond the borders of the Iberian Peninsula. Fear, undoubtedly, is one of the key factors behind the genesis of these works, and it remains a constant presence in their internal architecture. Within this context, the aim of this paper is to study fear as a tool present in the cultural and political writing practices of 12th-century Galicia, especially in the Codex Calixtinus and the Historia Compostellana. To that end, we will: a) study the contexts in which these materials emerged; b) analyze the two works, their composition and authorship; c) identify how fear is represented in these two sources; and d) consider how fear was used in the political context of the time within the chronicles and its relationship to that context.

Summary
In general terms, the main aim of this End of Master’s Degree Project (EMP) is the study and the annotated critical edition of the Galician-Portuguese songs of moral theme. The corpus of study is made up of compositions by several prominent authors in Galician-Portuguese lyrical production, active in different periods and belonging to different estates. This research will allow us to explore the ethical message that each author attempts to convey through their compositions, and eventually determine the existence of similarities and differences between them. First, detailed information will be provided about authors, the transmission of the texts that constitute the corpus and the thematic, stylistic and metric characteristics of moral songs. Secondly, the annotated critical edition of each of the songs will be carried out, regulated by pre-established editing criteria.

Summary
The literary figure of the madwoman has long reflected male-centric ideals of femininity and psychiatric discourse that historically portrayed women as irrational, insane, or emotionally unstable, especially when they failed to conform to patriarchal norms. Nonetheless, evolving perspectives on mental health and gender have begun to reshape this trope. Over time, the madwoman has been reimagined from the passive or hysterical victim of male-defined narratives to a complex character offering a deep analysis of their surroundings and how they affect them. This master’s thesis offers a comparative analysis between The Bell Jar (1963) by Sylvia Plath and Sorrow and Bliss (2020) by Meg Mason, exploring how each novel reflects and challenges traditional representations of female madness across two different eras. By analysing the first-person narratives of the protagonists, this study seeks to demonstrate the shift in the representation of women’s mental illness, considering the influence of gendered expectations. While the 1950s were characterised by excessive stigma and rigid gender roles, the 2020s reflect a move toward destigmatisation. Although the “madwoman” trope has changed, this dissertation reveals how gender continues to shape women’s experiences. To accomplish these objectives, this thesis’ methodology used an in-depth exploration of “madness” as a culturally constructed phenomenon influenced by patriarchal norms, drawing on foundational concepts such as Elaine Showalter’s “The Female Malady” and Betty Friedan’s “The Problem with No Name”. Among the critical works dealing with this topic, this dissertation will consider “Women and Hysteria in the History of Mental Health” by Cecilia Tasca explores the history of women’s link to hysteria, and Gilbert and Gubar’s (1979) “The Madwoman in the Attic” depicts the vilification of women throughout history.

The aim of the following master's thesis is to shed light on issues of gender, language, and literature. In particular, gender issues in Lexicography and the literary world, more specifically in the literary world of Galicia. To cover both areas, a Biographical Dictionary of Galician Female Writers is proposed, an online dictionary that presents all the entries in Galician and English. A lexicographical and biographical approach is adopted to structure the entries that form part of the proposed online dictionary. A general structure is presented and discussed, and examples are given in both languages.

Summary
Around 1330, a sculptor of uncertain identity, known as mestre Pero, will be called to Coimbra where, along with his workshop, they will create a new model of Our Lady of the O that will shape the future of this iconography during the Late Middle Ages of the peninsular west. This new archetype (result of the blend of local stiles, shapes and solutions with which the author would have learned in their homeland) will be promptly distributed throughout Portuguese and Galician territory thanks to the circulation of pieces and workshops that will travel through sea and the main pilgrimage and trade routes of the area. These works and authors will be influenced, once again, by the artistic spheres that take them in in their journeys, giving rise to new two-way exchanges and to the genesis of new models in Galician territory that, born of the blend of Coimbran and local precepts, will soon conquer new spaces inside the temples, engaging in dialogues with the faithful, whom will see in these images the hope of reaching salvation.

Summary
The GalicianPortuguese troubadour lyric stands as one of the richest literary heritages of the Middle Ages in the Iberian Peninsula. Its reception has followed diverse paths on both sides of the Minho River, revealing how a shared literary tradition can be mobilized in service of broader cultural and identity strategies. As a common heritage, it encourages a comparative approach and offers a fertile ground for understanding the processes through which narratives are shaped and disseminated from a shared repertoire. This research, with a primarily practical orientation, aims to examine the presence of medieval poetry in Galicia and Portugal from the end of their respective dictatorships to the present day, with a focus on the academic dimension. By analyzing school textbooks, educational curricula, and literary histories, the study explores the forms, didactic dynamics, and language through which this literary legacy is appropriated and experienced. The proposal seeks to contribute to the reflection on the construction and use of literary memory in transnational contexts.

Summary
The post-war period in Britain marked a reassertion of traditional gender roles, as dominant Western values reinforced women's subordination to patriarchal authority and confined them largely to the domestic sphere. In the 1950s, many women felt trapped in their role as housewives, experiencing anguish and a sense of purposelessness. Daphne du Maurier, a leading Gothic writer of the time, captures these anxieties in The Breaking Point (1959), a work composed of eight stories, each depicting a psychological turning point that alters the protagonists’ worldview. While scholars such as Gina Wisker (2022) and Setara Pracha (2023) have examined female subservience in individual stories, little attention has been paid to how The Breaking Point systematically challenges dominant gender narratives. Drawing on Gothic Studies within a framework of gender theory, and studies on liminality, this dissertation seeks to analyse four stories from The Breaking Point that stand out for their exploration of male-female dynamics, namely “The Alibi”, “The Blue Lenses”, “The Pool” and “The Chamois”. In this light, this dissertation argues that the selected stories challenge the cultural narratives underlying the construction of gender roles in The Breaking Point. As the analysis demonstrates, it is through Gothic strategies such as defamiliarisation and the emergence of liminal spaces and states that the characters’ worldview regarding said gendered cultural narratives is destabilised. Ultimately, the findings of this dissertation position The Breaking Point as a key representative of Female Gothic literature in mid-twentieth-century Britain and contributes to the growing, yet still quite limited, scholarship on du Maurier’s short fiction.
Summary
This study approaches an approximate study of the process of legitimization and strengthening of the power of the Portuguese dynasty of Avís, combining an analysis with a gender perspective of the propagandistic images produced by this lineage, in parallel to the portrait that the mechanisms of control of gender and sexuality behaviours outline. Taking as a chronological framework the reigns of João I, D. Duarte, Afonso V and João II, parallels and dissonances will be sought between the models and ideals of gender and the regulatory actions in the court, the kingdom and those territories in the process of being colonized. Thus, the characterization of gender roles, the evolution of legislative measures to control sexuality, its limitations and margins of permissibility, as well as the intersection between gender and other categories of political, social, religious and ethnic otherness will be addressed.

Summary
Representations of LGBTIQ+ people in the arts have always existed and have a great cultural, social and political impact. Based on a theoretical review, the concepts of queer and camp are explored, identifying their main themes and aesthetic characteristics, such as humor, excess, artificiality and their ability to subvert social and cultural norms. The role of audiovisuals in making the transgender experience visible is also addressed, considering how these narratives contribute to questioning gender binarism, dismantling stereotypes and offering more inclusive and complex identity models. Through case studies in film, television and digital platforms, works that combine aesthetic transgression and activism are analyzed, revealing the potential of audiovisuals as a tool of resistance and transformation within the framework of the fight for the rights of the LGTBIQ+ community.

Summary
The relación is a publishing genre that emerged in the context of eighteenth-century printing. It constitutes a type of short theatrical print in which fragments or excerpts were printed from famous comedies or autos sacramentales that continued to be successful in the publishing and performing arts world of the eighteenth century. The main objective of this work is to study the relaciones of Calderón de la Barca's autos in the context of the controversy that arose regarding this genre and that led to its prohibition in 1765. First, a corpus will be developed that includes all of Calderón's relaciones de autos. Then, all the defining aspects of these prints will be examined in detail: their material characteristics, a study of the workshops from which these prints were issued, the titles of the autos from which they originate, and the number of editions of each of these relaciones. This will help to understand which ones were most successful in the eighteenth century. Finally, a study of the selected fragment will be included in the lists to understand which part of the auto was most successful literary and theatrical.

Summary
Galician-Portuguese cantigas de escarnio reveal a wide range of possibilities for exploring sexuality and female body, in which satire and mocjery are very present in the majority of cases explicitly and also implicitly, with multiple metaphors and double meanings. Based on the delineation of a textual corpus that takes into account the treatment of the topic in this satirical genre, the different discourses will be analyzed as they are articulated. The theoretical framework of the concept of sexuality in the Middle Ages (moral and religious view) and satire and ridicule as literary tools will be taken into account first. The representation of the female body will be studied next (grotesque characterization, ideal beauty in contrast with deformity, and the symbolism it can convey) and sexuality (veiled descriptions through metaphors, explicit allusions, criticized female figures, adultery, promiscuity, homoeroticism, etc.). Additionally, other historical, artistic, and literary sources will be used

Summary
This paper attempts to explore the various contexts and motivations that, in postmodernism, lead to the production of performances in which the artist's body is subjected to violence. It will then conduct a chronological review of some of the movements and artists who incorporate these self-harming practices into their works, followed by an ethical and aesthetic evaluation of the topic. Finally, it will reflect on how new technologies can broaden the debate by offering the possibility of performing self-harming, even suicidal, performances using robots.

Summary
The songs in The Lord of the Rings by John Ronald Reuel Tolkien serve as a bridge that enables union and communion between past and present. This relationship has not been deeply studied by various experts in the author's work. The aim of this paper is to demonstrate the connection between songs and memory in Tolkien's work. To this end, several songs will be selected whose lyrics recount past events and hold significant importance in the experiences of the characters and the choices they make. The analysis covers aspects such as the lyrics, the setting and circumstances in which they are sung, the characters who perform them, and their relationship with other figures in Tolkien's universe, among others. It explores how the songs relate to the tone of the narrative and the number of songs in each part of the work, noting that they decrease as the story grows darker and hope for the triumph of good over evil fades. This paper offers a fresh perspective on the study of songs in Tolkien's work, since they are typically analyzed within cinematic adaptations or in relation to the author’s life, but not in intradiegetic terms. Memory studies provide an analytical framework to gauge the significance of a past that endures through songs remembered and sung by the inhabitants of Middle-earth.

Summary
The recovery of the moments of the past presented as epic by the history of Galician nationalism was carried out in literature by some authors who, after the death of the dictator in 1975, wanted to renew the national imaginary. What were the events rescued, what were the useful messages for the union of the imagined community in the present and in the future, what were the reasons for the coincidence in the literary formula of the narrative or what were the ways in which this was done, are some of the questions that gave rise to this research. Crónica de nós (1980), by Xosé Luis Méndez Ferrín; Trasalba ou Violeta e o militar morto (1985) and Porta blindada (1990), by Margarita Ledo Andión; Morte de rei (1996), by Darío Xohán Cabana and No ventre do silencio (1999), also by X. L. Méndez Ferrín, also by X. L. Méndez Ferrín, are the works in which the answers were sought. The grouping of these writers, who maintain certain generational connections, a similar ideological position and even their concurrence in the recently created Xerais, responds to the desire to define a corpus with internal coherence which, by placing it in the context of the literary field of the 1980s and 1990s, becomes an addition to the studies on literature, society and history that have been carried out for some time.

Summary
The Basilica of San Prudencio de Armentia (ca. 1135-1200) is one of the most intriguing buildings in the Romanesque period in Alava. The liturgical function of its peculiar iconographic programme, descontextualised from its original sacred space, is still the subject of many hypotheses. As it is a Byzantine Anastasis, its subject matter must be related both to literary sources of classical origin and to iconographic repertoires in circulation in the kingdom of Navarre at the end of the 12th century, such as the so-called Pamplona Bibles (ca. 1194-1197). All this allows us to understand the impact of Byzantine art on the so-called art of the 1200s in the West, as well as to understand the context, both ecclesiastical and geopolitical, at the time when these reliefs were produced. The basilica - built during the reinstallation of the kingdom of Navarre in 1134 - is testimony to the constant conflicts over the conquest of the territory of the Alava plains between King Sancho el Fuerte of Navarre (1194-1234) and Alfonso VIII of Castile (1158-1214), who sought to link Alava to the Castilian orbit, given that it belonged to the diocese of Calahorra.

Summary
Julia Kristeva's concept of the abject runs through the veins of Gothic fiction, from is inception to its modern iterations, and has evolved past the written word and into other forms of fiction. Among a sea of monstrous creations, Al Ewing's Immortal Hulk (2018-2021) stands out as a work that not only embraces the roots of nineteenth-century Gothic fiction by fixating on the physicality of the monster it portrays, but manages to evolve the concept of the monster itself by presenting abjection and physical otherness in itself as a political weapon. This thesis intends to examine Immortal Hulk as an evolution of Gothic monster narratives, utilizing the work of Julia Kristeva to analyze the trajectory of the physically abject in literature. To this end, this study will be structure into three main parts. In the first one, the concept of the abject will be examined as it pertains to Gothic fiction and Gothic monsters across its timeline. This will be followed by a contextualization of the character of the Hulk as a creation inspired by works of Gothic fiction, and finally, the third chapter will provide a close reading of Immortal Hulk in which I shall examine its position as a recontextualization of the Hulk mythos as well as the evolution of the Gothic abject it presents, in the form of a political weapon.

Summary
Greek tragedy was for the Athenian community one of the most important elements of its community and religious life. But the festival of the Great Dionysia also played a very pivotal role in the politic life of the city in relation to the other Greek polis. Thus, in a contest that brought together in the koilon of the Theater of Dionysus spectators from all parts of the Hellenic world, the tragediographers put into practice a series of elements for the exaltation of the democratic system. These two sides of the theatrical phenomenon, the ideological and the ritual, will be the backbone of the present reaserch, which will attempt to find traces of this in the rewritings of the tragedies performed during the twentieth century. To this end, after a problematization of concepts such as 'translation', 'adaptation' or 'rewriting', we will move on to an anlysis of 5th century plays, Sophocles' Philoctetes and Euripides' Bacchae, in dialogue with their analogues in the postmodern era, Seamus Heaney's The Cure at Troy and Schechner's Dionysus in 69, paying special attention to their spatial dimensión, considering it a particularly revealing semiotic category to understand the discourses and values behind the stage.

Summary
Dante Alighieri’s Commedia is a literary work that has influenced various forms of art and media, including video games. Dante’s Inferno reimagines Dante as a crusader knight who fights through the nine circles of Hell to rescue Beatrice. Although at first glance there may not seem to be a profound connection between the two products, this raises questions about how the narratives of ancient works are transferred to contemporary cultural systems and how they are interpreted in these media. This study explores these issues through a comparative and cultural analysis. It examines how the literary and cultural narratives of the poem have been transferred, establishing relationships of intermediality or transmediality. Special attention is paid to the configuration of narratological elements and their adaptation. Finally, the research investigates how ideas such as the journey to the afterlife, guilt, punishment, and redemption are conveyed in the video game.

Summary
Long periods of warfare, political tensions, and famine in Europe have made the Americas an appealing final destination for many since the early decades of colonisation. In the case of Cuba, the island remained a receiving country of migration for many years, but would make a sharp turn outwards as the political climate began to get heated in the second quarter of the 20th century. The main country to welcome the many waves of migration that followed was the United States of America. This mass migration led to a process of transculturation, the merging of two cultures, among the members of the diasporic community, which brought forward feelings of belonging and unbelonging, troubled memories of the past, and questions regarding cultural identity. This master’s thesis intends to examine the impact of migration on the Cuban diaspora living in the United States by carrying out an analysis of the characters that appear in Oscar Hijuelos’ The Mambo Kings Play Songs of Love (1990). Consequently, the analysis will consist of a theoretical framework that aims to expand on the concepts of diaspora, memory, and identity that make up the experience of Cuban immigrants in America; and a literary analysis that will focus on the application of such terms to Hijuelos’ characters. Furthermore, the impact of music, both in the novel and in Cuban culture, will be essential to bring together the theoretical aspects in question. Through the figure of Eugenio Castillo, and driven by his status as second-generation immigrant, this dissertation aims to bring the aforementioned theoretical notions together by presenting him as the ultimate representative of the process of transculturation. To carry it out, the study will be contrasted to several relevant bibliographical sources and will be illustrated with a number of excerpts from the novel.

Summary
The territory of the Netherlands was a forerunner in the establishment of a market economy and capitalist modes of production and exchange. Certain geographic conditions -such as soil subsidence, a high level of literacy, a substantial proportion of wage labor, and the advantages conferred by fluvial communication routes-combined with the existence of institutions in which civil society retained a significant degree of influence over political decision-making. Consequently, the social conflict conditions that the classical Marxist model generically posits as prerequisites for the transition from feudalism to capitalism did not materialize. In this way, a mercantile ethos took shape from the early fifteenth century onward, driven by the active involvement of urban centers in which a burgeoning mercantile bourgeoisie conducted its affairs, giving rise to a genuine koopman geest -a distinctive character of the Dutch people.

Summary
This work aims to analyse the various dimensions of the forest as imagined and depicted item in one of the most notable literary cycles of the twelfth and thirteenth centuries: the Prose Lancelot. Focusing the matter, the work will focus on medieval France, considering different dimensions revealed by the work: the forest's demarcation from its real context; the relationship, exploitation and transformation of the forest by medieval communities; and its conception as the space of the marvellous and miraculous. Through the texts and images of the Lancelot, we will examine the forest's main representations; both the well-known, strolled-through and exploited one, as that one that came from an imaginary world taken as real by its contemporaries but believed as full of wonders. A work in which the forests, full of symbolic richness, end up becoming the mirror reflection of a mentality in which the common life and the marvellous are inextricably linked.

Summary
The following work aims to analyze the treatment of space in four films shot by Jacques Rivette in the city of Paris, using a comparative method: Paris nous appartient, Out 1, Duelle, and Le Pont du Nord. Urban geography and space have been major themes in literature since the 19th century, and the same is true for cinema. Works such as Imágenes de la ciudad by Darío Villanueva have explored this issue, and contemporary literary theory has highlighted the importance of spatial analysis in terms of Bakhtin’s concept of the chronotope. Jacques Rivette's cinema has always been associated with the city and the exploration of space. In his films, Paris is the most important and the most difficult character to define; it is a magical and literary place where the fantastic hides, but also one where political violence exists in the shadows. For Francisco Algarín, it is the city of parallel life. Despite the existence of numerous studies on the relationship between Rivette's cinema, especially with Balzac, there is a lack of comparative studies on space and the city in his work. Through the comparison of the aforementioned films with various novels, including Histoire des Treize by Honoré de Balzac, Les Mystères de Paris by Eugène Sue, and La Disparition by Georges Perec, the peculiarities of spatial usage in Rivette’s work will be revealed.

Summary
This paper studies the episode of the Slaughter of the Innocents from various perspectives, both through canonical and apocryphal sources and liturgical dramas and works of art from the late tenth century to the late fifteenth century. To do so, we will look at how the story was told and how it led to the liturgical dramas that were performed in churches. On the other hand, we will also analyse the different characters that take part in the scene, Herod, mothers and children, in order to be able, in a final section, to approach the iconography that identifies each of them in the artistic works that deal with the theme of the Slaughter of the Innocents.
